After decommitting from Indiana and delaying his decision several times, Columbus (Ind.) quarterback Gunner Kiel has finally pulled the trigger and committed to LSU.

"I can't wait to play in the SEC," Kiel told 247Sports. "A lot of people call it the NFL of college football and it will be an exciting time. It would mean a lot to be a starting quarterback in such a great conference at a great school. I really love the players and the coaching staff. They were all great to me on my visit and seemed very welcoming."

Ranked as the top signal-caller in the class of 2012 and number two overall recruit by Maxpreps, Kiel holds scholarship offers from just about every program in the country, including Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan, USC and others. He surprised plenty of folks by committing to Indiana in late July and new head coach Kevin Wilson but opened things back up in October. He quickly scheduled official visits to each of his finalists, Notre Dame, LSU and Vanderbilt.

"To be honest I'm just reevaluating my decision," Kiel told at the time. "I just want to go out and see other places and see if IU is the right place."

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder threw for 2,517 yards and 28 touchdowns this season while also rushing for 11 scores. He led Columbus East to an 11-2 record his senior year and was named Indiana's "Mr. Football" by the Indianapolis Star.

Kiel's brother, Dusty, is a sophomore at Indiana and his uncle, Blair, played at Notre Dame.

The strong-armed and aptly named Gunner will enroll early in Baton Rouge after playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 7th.

The commitment of the top quarterback in the country is another big boost for the Tigers class of 2012, which now sits at 22 commits. LSU took three quarterbacks with last year's class and Kiel figures to battle talented junior college transfer Zach Mettenberger for the starting job upon arriving on campus. Prior to Kiel's pledge, Les Miles' next recruiting class was ranked 9th overall in the MaxPreps team rankings.

Bawanderr :

Why are people from the south so fat?
Probably because the food is better by about a factor of 1000.  The real question is why is everyone in Pennsylvania a pedophile?

What is it with all the Hoosiers acting like intergrity means something to them?  You guys had Bob Knight, the polar opposite of integrity, as a coach for how long?

Look who's talking.....

Yer coach lets dude play in first game after kicking a Marine in the head, who is on the ground, and only suspends that idiot Honeybugger 1 game for smokin dope.

Dude, get off your moral highground. Your coach and team has just as many issues as everyone else's.

Yes, it is true that while defending himself from an unprovoked attack by a dishonarably discharged marine that Jefferson did indeed mop the floor with the assaulting criminal.  Self-defense is not a crime (unless fighting off Sandusky, that will get you killed like that DA), and the grand jury, which has the smallest possible burden to convict on, didn't.  Again, Les Miles is the definition of integrity.

Honeybadger did nothing illegal by the way as it wasn't real pot, but unlike the Big 10, LSU actually tests its players.  Compare that to Ingram getting pulled over with a car full of weed while at Alabama and he didn't miss a snap!  In fact Saban the scumbag covered it up ala Tressell.

Dude, it is you on the moral high horse.  Have you already forgotten that it was you slinging mud and calling names out of pure homerdom?  Sparky, you my young friend are confused.

By the way, how did Richardson get the brand new Hummer right before his Freshman year?  <crickets>

A number of posters have mentioned the fact that he "committed" to Indiana then changed his mind.  I would argue a couple of points.  A) most people who make such comments have never gone through the recruiting process themselves.  B) the recruiting process is more competitive than ever,  and is occurring earlier in a young athletes life.  Therefore, a kid making a decision at the age of 15 or 16 is likely to change that by the time he/she is 17 or 18.  C)  He never signed a letter of intent.  He only gave a verbal.  Therefore, he had not officially "committed".

Good for the kid. He's free to do what he wants, including changing his mind. These schools are out to use the athletes, so he owes then zero. Schools rarely show any loyalty to a player who doesn't meet their expectations or gets hurt. They'd run him off to save the scholarship. Not to mention that Indiana football certainly isn't his best option if it evolves that he has a future in the NFL.

P Fizzle, we all know what your game is.  Put your dual identity to rest and go back to your regular avatar.  Your facts are pretensions which get you nowhere and obstruct the legitimate enjoyment the rest of us get from sites like this.
We eat crawfish down here, not crawdads, whatever they are; humble pie will be what you eat (among other things) when the SEC reigns this year, next, and likely beyond that.  This guy Kiel is going to fit right in with our objective of winning it all each and every year.  Geaux Tigers!

Cogratulations to LSU, this guy seems to be the real deal. He is coming in at the perfect time to fill the shoes of Mettenberger. Lets not forget how great a talent Mettenberger is. He is the kid Georgia was ecstatic to get but his off field arrests caused Georgia coach Richt to kick him off the team and allow him to play anywhere which is Georgias policy. I remember when he visited Southern Cals quarterback camp out here and Pete Carrol said this is the first kid I have ever seen who could throw the ball as well as John Elway. Coach Carrol coached Elway in the pros. Southern Cal was VERY dissapointed when he committed to Georgia! He will win a championship next year at LSU before being a first round draft pick. All they need is a quarterback next year to win it all. Alabama will win this year.

I think the kid is a joke mainly because of how he acted. People can lay excuses down all they want about these kids age and what not but fact is at 17-18 i didnt know what i wanted to do but i knew not to make up my mind and say i was gonna do something until i was sure of it. He commited to IU got there hopes up then pretty much disregarded them  and left for the current best team in the nation. I hope he fails miserabley.

First of all, I'm not racist .... I never said I don't like black people.
I make fun of all races ...  No discrimination here.

I just simply stated two facts .... I'm not black, and I have all of my teeth.

Terry wasn't a great QB ...look at his stats. He was on a great teams. A handful of quarterbacks could have played for those Steeler teams and won championships.
