After decommitting from Indiana and delaying his decision several times, Columbus (Ind.) quarterback Gunner Kiel has finally pulled the trigger and committed to LSU.

"I can't wait to play in the SEC," Kiel told 247Sports. "A lot of people call it the NFL of college football and it will be an exciting time. It would mean a lot to be a starting quarterback in such a great conference at a great school. I really love the players and the coaching staff. They were all great to me on my visit and seemed very welcoming."

Ranked as the top signal-caller in the class of 2012 and number two overall recruit by Maxpreps, Kiel holds scholarship offers from just about every program in the country, including Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan, USC and others. He surprised plenty of folks by committing to Indiana in late July and new head coach Kevin Wilson but opened things back up in October. He quickly scheduled official visits to each of his finalists, Notre Dame, LSU and Vanderbilt.

"To be honest I'm just reevaluating my decision," Kiel told CBSSports.com at the time. "I just want to go out and see other places and see if IU is the right place."

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder threw for 2,517 yards and 28 touchdowns this season while also rushing for 11 scores. He led Columbus East to an 11-2 record his senior year and was named Indiana's "Mr. Football" by the Indianapolis Star.

Kiel's brother, Dusty, is a sophomore at Indiana and his uncle, Blair, played at Notre Dame.

The strong-armed and aptly named Gunner will enroll early in Baton Rouge after playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 7th.

The commitment of the top quarterback in the country is another big boost for the Tigers class of 2012, which now sits at 22 commits. LSU took three quarterbacks with last year's class and Kiel figures to battle talented junior college transfer Zach Mettenberger for the starting job upon arriving on campus. Prior to Kiel's pledge, Les Miles' next recruiting class was ranked 9th overall in the MaxPreps team rankings.

But...is Gunner a runner?  He seems not to be the "athletic" QB that Les has come to love of late. I can understand NOT IU....but Kiel may regret not going to ND or USC.  But then again, QBs at LSU get to have lots of sneakers!  That's a plus.
All college football players have that many pairs of shoes (who says sneakers?) as they got them free from the school twice a year, they get them free from summer camps, etc.  It is normal for a college football player from a major program to have that many shoes.  It isn't like he was trading his school supplied merchandise for drugs and tattoos like Ohio State or anything.  Can Katzenmoyer read yet?

I'm not sure about other schools, but Alabama did not pursue him after he decommitted from Indiana. They had already found a QB out of Texas and were only looking at a QB prospect in Alabama.
Of course Alabama didn't pursue Kiel as Kiel had no interest in Alabama.  Supposedly he didn't like Saban at all, which isn't that surprising when one considers that the man ignores convulsing players.

rishDog- That's an ignorant comment. IU has a good tradition of successful QBs who were drafted including Trent Green. I can't think of any who were seriously injured, and I've been following IU for almost 50 years.

To bad the boy learned at such a young age that giving his word means nothing as long as he gets what he wants at the time
What is it about "non-binding" that you are struggling with?  What is it with all the Hoosiers acting like intergrity means something to them?  You guys had Bob Knight, the polar opposite of integrity, as a coach for how long?

SEC is the NFL of college football?  Are you retarded bro?  SEC is the cheaters of college football and you probably got paid to say that.  I hope you break a leg (literally) when playing for LSU.  Spend your money wisely and drive your free car cautiously because all SEC programs will be under major scrutiny once the NCAA discovers the cheating tactics of the conference.  By the way Gunner Kiel, you are one of the ugliest humans I've ever seen.  Red hair and a gargoyle's face
This coming from a Michigan fan, home of the fab five pay for play scandal.  How hysterical is it that this little punk calls out the SEC for cheating when his conference is by far the worst about cheating lol?  Ohio State anyone?  Before stating in your best big boy voice, "are you retarded bro?", maybe you should have looked in the mirror and realized that your conference is home to the biggest pedophiles in the world - systematic rape of young boys and systematic cover ups of constant violations - the Big 10 way.  And why not?  When the Big 10 gets caught they don't really get punished.  Somehow suspended players get to play in bowl games while SEC players who did much less (A. J. Green) don't.

So not only do you ignore the rampant pedophilia and cheating in your conference, but then you wish an actual injury on this kid.  With "fans" like you up North, no wonder you can't recruit anyone.  Who in the hell would want to play for a school you root for?  Yikes what a douche wishing injuries.  Grow up son.

Here we have a young man who made a decision about where to play college football.  It is his life, and therefore his decision.  ANyone who sits back and criticizes or second guesses the choices of a 17 year old are, quite simply, stupid.  Run your own life bitter weirdos and let this kid run his.  Yikes.  It is amazing how much some people hate free will and choice.  May I suggest Iran if such concepts offend you?

"geaux tigers".  learn how to spell you french moron
Someone doesn't understand the concept of colloquialisms.  The lack of basic grammar while decrying the spelling skills of others is such an Upper Peninsula thing to do.  Education isn't for everyone I guess.
