With Signing Day fast approaching, commitments are being made and classes are being filled and Erial (N.J.) linebacker Quanzell Lambert had already made a decision but was waiting for the right moment to let everybody know. Although it was a tough one, one of the top recruits in the Northeast made the call and chose to stay close to home by committing to Rutgers on Thursday.
“It was a very, very hard decision,” Lambert told Scout. “I had so many (strong) relationships with coaches throughout the process it was hard to say no. There were so many great programs. It all came down to me and my family. I always wanted them to see me play college ball.
The 6-foot-2, 240-pounder held scholarship offers from Alabama, Nebraska and Iowa among others but picked Rutgers primarily because of academics.
“It’s a great program and I can get my degree (in engineering),” Lambert said. “That’s one of the main things. They practice in the morning so I can pursue my career in engineering and it won’t interfere with practice. That was one of the biggest factors in the decision.”
Lambert is the 15th commitment for the Scarlet Knights' class of 2012 and the second linebacker. The four-star is ranked by Maxpreps as the 25th inside linebacker.
