SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Tampa (Fla.) defensive end Tyriq McCord has been torn between leaving the state of Florida or staying close to home. Though there's still several weeks until Signing Day and he's planning on taking other official visits, McCord made a public announcement Saturday at the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl and committed to Miami.

"I'm going to take my talents to South Beach," McCord said. "Coach (Al) Golden has that program pointed in the right direction and I want to be part of it.."

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound end's recruitment is not over. He was heavily pursed by Florida, Georgia and South Carolina and has said that if distance wasn't a factor, he'd be committing to USC. He plans to take an official visit to see the Trojans later this month and that's one reason why you can list McCord as a soft verbal but, for now, a terrific pickup for the Hurricanes' class.

"He attacks the pocket, uses his long arms to effectively shed blocks and get to the ball, and is very athletic with outstanding quickness and surprising leverage," analyst Tom Lemming said. "Needs to add weight and strength and when he does, look out."

The five-star had 11.5 sacks during his senior season and added one more in the 1st half of the Army Bowl.
