It was a productive weekend for Tennessee despite some coaching uncertainty as the program added two players who are complete opposites in terms of what they do on the field with pledges from speedy Crowley (La.) athlete Davante Bourque and mammoth Milledgeville (Ga.) junior college defensive tackle Daniel McCullers.
“They were the first one to offer me, so that was a big thing to me,” McCullers told GoVols247.com. “When they came up here, we talked. We had a good time. They’re real down-to-earth, the whole coaching staff. The new D-coordinator (Sal Sunseri), I know him from Alabama."
In addition to the Vols and Crimson Tide, Peters - all of 6-foot-6, 380-pounds - also held an offer from N.C. State and was drawing interest from several other programs. He will team up with the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Bourque, who previously was committed to Texas A&M and LSU before settling on Tennessee after an official visit and close ties with the current staff.
“Coach (Terry) Joseph and I have developed a really good relationship,” Bourque told InsideTennessee.com. “He is my main recruiter and he is a Louisiana guy so that has made things easier. He has been to the house a couple of time for visits and we sat down on the couch and had some gumbo.”
The pair gives the program a total of 20 commitments for the class of 2012. Bourque is ranked as the 20th best athlete in the class by Maxpreps.
