Well, I waited before posting something given how fluid the situation is (which, I guess, easily applies to recruiting in general the next few weeks) but a quick update as Monday evening rolls around.

This afternoon TigerSportsDigest.com reported that a source informed them that recent commit and Maxpreps' #2 overall player Gunner Kiel was not in attendance for an early enrollee meeting at LSU ahead of classes starting Tuesday. This was followed by several reports coming out of Notre Dame saying that Kiel could be headed to South Bend, including IrishIllustrated.com and 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong, who is close to the family.

Attempts to reach Kiel were unsuccessful and sources on both sides didn't provide any information on what might be happening.

Obviously this is just another recruiting drama to follow one of the country's top ranked players (think Terrelle Pryor or Jadeveon Clowney in just the past few years). Kiel seemed solidly committed following a so-so performance at the Army All-American Bowl two weeks ago.

"The SEC is just like the NFL," Kiel told CBSSports.com. "It's going to be hard and I know it's going to hard and I have to make a lot of improvements.

"But it is a perfect time for me to go (to LSU) and compete. With Jordan (Jefferson) and Jarrett (Lee) both seniors and leaving it's a perfect time to go and battle for a spot. Baton Rouge is a beautiful place and the people there are so nice, it's like a big family there. It's awesome."

Kiel also briefly mentioned a good relationship with quarterbacks coach Steve Kragthorpe and how hard LSU recruited him despite his commitment to Indiana. All of it seems... interesting in retrospect but we'll see what happens in the next 24 hours. The signal-caller does have time to make up his mind as to where he wants to enroll early but if he does it is notable that he's already cost the Tigers one recruit in offensive tackle Patrick Miller, who surprisingly enrolled at Auburn after there was no room for him in Baton Rouge.

So basically, something's up but nobody knows exactly what is going on - including several coaches. Got it? Get it. Good. That's how recruiting - especially around top five recruits - seems to go this time of year. If there is an update, check back on the Eye on Recruiting.

Otherwise, Where in the World is Gunner Kiel resumes tomorrow.

UPDATE: The Observer has confirmed that Kiel will head to Notre Dame.

Where in the world is Gunner Kiel landing?

Your football program is all that LSU has.  Your overall schools repuataion cant even come close to ND.  If you ask me it didnt look like Jefferson got it past the ladies tee all night long on MOnday.  Why do you think Kiel left?  Because the mad hatter was out classed in every way possible in the BCS game.

second huge recruit ND has stolen from a southern school the past 2 years (Aaron Lynch).  Expect some more guys to follow Kiel, most notably a pair of brothers who also are highly thought of recruits.

I'm glad LSU isn't ND, that way LSU can be relevant instead of living in the 80's.  Also, I don't want a kid who makes a decision based on his mother's crying.  If he can't get off the teet we don't need him.
