Harris makes flip to Texas A&M official

Lost amid some of the brouhaha surrounding the Gunner Kiel and Ellis McCarthy switches on Monday night was the commitment of former Oklahoma pledge and Mesquite (Texas) cornerback De'Vante Harris to Texas A&M.

"Officially committed to Texas A&M University!" Harris tweeted.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound corner decommitted from the Sooners shortly after playing in the Under Armour All-American game and it wasn't too long before he was headed to the SEC to play for the Aggies. He also held offers from schools such as Ohio State, Nebraska and Tennessee.

Harris' father, Rod, was a star receiver for A&M in the 1980's. The younger Harris recently took a visit to College Station to meet new head coach Kevin Sumlin and position coach Marcel Yates during the school's big recruiting weekend and that appeared to seal the deal.

With his pledge, Harris becomes Texas A&M's 24th commitment in the class of 2012 with just over two weeks until Signing Day.

It made the news....must be important.  And then, it is among the first for the Aggies.  Eventually the attraction of the SEC at a Texas school will lead to a National Championship for Texas......... at A&M.  And all they were looking for was a conference that was fair to all its' members.

You know what's interesting? As light as he is, he still had the most tackles in the Under Armour All-american game. Once this kid puts on some weight, I'd be worried about the hits he's gonna lay on people.

it is too early to say who or how the move to the SEC effects all the schools, the SEC has been recruiting texas for years, that will never change, if anything the kids that want to play the SEC competion now have an option in state, and i would guess with you last comment about the doormat, LSU sure looked like the dirt ol rug in the championship game, no offense to a doormat thou....

Jaybird...the BEST recruits in Texas will either go to Texas OR Oklahoma...per the norm.  In the short term there is a BUZZ about aTm joining the SEC...but this will soon fade. In the long run the SEC move will hurt aTm as they continually post losing records in the SEC. THE ONE THAT IS HELPED THE MOST IS TCU. The Hornfrogs move to the Big XII helps their recruiting immensely and hurts aTm, Baylor and TxTech.  All aTm joining the SEC has done is allow LSU to make MORE in-roads in Texas and schools like Bama, Arkansas, Florida, Auburn and UGA to ALSO recruit the Lone Star State. SEAUX...good job Aggies...the SEC West needed a Vanderbilt...no offense to the 'Dores.

Not to take anything from TAMU or Harris, but I am not sure this one fits as a "TAMU beats Texas and Oklahoma in recruiting."   First, Texas didn't give this kid an offer.   2nd, Harris is a legacy (his father is an Ag.)   TAMU should have never lost him in the 1st place.

I do think TAMU in the SEC will change the face of recruiting.  However, I don't think it has done so yet.

This kid better put on some lbs. real fast or some tight end will squish him. Good eating son and good luck!
