David Perkins latest to join Ohio State's class

Judging by the way Urban Meyer's first recruiting class is going, the bar has been set quite high for things in Columbus - even higher than one might have once he was hired - and the new head coach picked up another top recruit on Wednesday with the commitment of South Bend (Ind.) linebacker David Perkins.

“I held if off for a day and I’m just ready,” Perkins told 247Sports. “I know where I want to go. I don’t want to take anymore visits. That’s a wrap. I’m walking into a perfect situation being around some of the best people. It’s everything I want in a school. This is just great.”

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder is a speedy outside linebacker who was originally committed to Notre Dame. Perkins reopened his recruitment in the middle of his senior season and held offers from schools such as LSU, Michigan State and Oregon before settling on Ohio State.

“You hear people say when you get on campus you’ll know, when you get there you’ll know,” Perkins began. “Man when I got there, I just knew off the bat, this is it. I loved it there. It was amazing. I really enjoyed myself up there. I loved the people up there. Talking to the coaches, I loved the coaches. They were all people I could be around. There is so much wisdom and knowledge about the game walking around that facility and being around people like that is something I love and appreciate."

One of the top athletes in the state, Perkins racked up 103 tackles and seven sacks in addition to rushing for over 1,300 yards on offense. He becomes Ohio State's 22nd commitment for the class of 2012.

IF you Michigan Tech fans are NOT worried --what are you doing on a site concerning OSU recruiting?  When day after day you hear we continue to land big time recruits and have BYPASSED  your supposedly "insurmountable" ranking lead:  it must be tuff to swallow huh?  Death penalty?   wishful thinking ...and the only way  you will out recruit us in our OWN state is IF we let you cuz we have better options down SOUTH.  you had eight home games this year, didnt have to play Wisky --and you barely beat us at home with a freshman QB and you still lost two games??  so next year you play Bama, at Nebraska , at ND and us in CBUS --which will be OUR bowl game ...be afraid...be VERY afraid

Then, he goes out and gets a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits very late in the recruiting period with an already tainted program, which is big time unusual. It doesn't take a brainiac to add this one up. No one can recruit like that without being using practices that would be highly skeptical by the NCAA infractions committee

So basically he recruits well, so he must be cheating? Nice logic. I guess ignore the factthat he has won National Championships and has always recruited well. Also, OSU has real lack of depth at both OL and LB...so he can promise kids a chance to play alot sooner than some schools, and most kids want that. Lastly, a few are former Penn St. rcruits who bailed after the disaster there...guys he probably would NOT have gotten otherwise.

If you are gonna hate on the Buckeyes, at least wait instead of trying to put it out there that the new coach must be chating. Geez.

Hahahahaha scared? Of Sobbin' Urban? Surely you jest.  You Buttf*cks, er Buckeyes should be scared that he doesn't lose a clunker to Minnesota or Indiana and remember how much he enjoys 'spending time' with his family...or he redevelops his 'health problem'...or he chases the dream and begs Elway to let him coach the 'love of his life' (my personal prediction).  Do you realize you just hired the biggest diva since Bette Midler?  And add a bunch of entitlement-minded, coddled 5-Star, swollen-headed high school kids?  In a party town like CBus? You could be standing on the fn moon and see this train wreck coming.  Two words--Death Penalty.

Bottom line suckers, Northern Ohio is fair game between OState and Michigan since Hoke brought back the pro-style offense.  And maybe you've forgotten, but Mattison was Meyer's secret weapon at Florida both schematically and on the recruiting trail. Penn State and Notre Dame may have to worry, but Michigan will again go back to grabbing their share of the kids from the Toledo, Cleveland, and Youngstown areas.  Game on Flamers!!!

The funny thing about Ohio State is that, as I recall, they are currently on probation, and all that means is if they screw up even once while on probation, they can kiss the football program away for the next decade or so. They then go out and hire a coach whose record of handling his players' off field issues is as bad as his won-lost record is good. Then, he goes out and gets a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits very late in the recruiting period with an already tainted program, which is big time unusual. It doesn't take a brainiac to add this one up. No one can recruit like that without being using practices that would be highly skeptical by the NCAA infractions committee. The kids are buying the person and what it represents, not the program and what it represents. If he lets the program run amuck like his predecessor, which is likely if he continues to turn over the keys to the program to 18 year old kids by being lax on discipline like he was with the Gators, the hammer will soon fall. We'll just have to wait to see when.

It is intersting you bring up Stonum and Forcier with their legal issues.  Based upon Meyer's proven track record, you indeed will win and probably win big.  However, you will also lead the B1G on the police blotter page and in less than 5 years will be again looking for a new coach.  The good part about it will be that you can finally get rid of the knuckleheads running the athletic dept and university.

The fact that Michigan fans are coming onto this page to comment means they know they are screwed with the year OSU had and the recuirts they are getting just imagine what they will get the year after this when they don't suck and the pentalies are gone.

you must be shaking in your boots idiot--you and the rest of you Michigan Tech fans and  ALL B1G fans as well.  Hoke the JOKE train never existed in ohio--75% of your ohio recruits were NEVER offered by us and with the calvacade of BIG TIME talent coming in --your ONE year history of success (after a DECADE OF MISERY) will abruptly come to an end next november in COLUMBUS.  That will be OUR bowl game -- and ask yourself this --IF Urban Meyer can do this in ONLY 2 months on the job ; what will he DO with a whole year of preparation.. . scary huh?? just watch the next couple weeks as our 2013 class (now juniors ) start to commit.  as for 'douchbags'  --what happened to stonum? forcier? and the half dozen others that jumped the MICHIGAN TECH ship a while ago???  yep, that rattling I hear is becoming deafening...LOL

Urban train? I'd rather have a 3 Star with common sense and loyalty than a ego driven 4 and 5 Star douchebag which apparently more and more are starting to come to "Ohio"

which is fine with me

because the Hoke Freight train is rolling through Ohio and He's going to turn our 3 star recruits into 5 star studs, dont worry "ohio" you guys will start being a sinking ship just like that one in italy. All the Rats and rodents are always the first one's to go

The Meyer recruiting train keeps on rolling and I expect about 4 or 5 more top recruits to be Buckeyes over the next few weeks!

Perkins will fill a need of speed at outside linebacker and will be a great addition to this incredible class that is stacked in the front 7 on defense.
