Utah's move to a BCS conference has brought with it better and better recruits and head coach Kyle Whittingham picked up another good one in Fontana (Calif.) linebacker Reshawn Hooker, who committed to the Utes following a visit last weekend.
"My family decided that it was the best place that I could fit in as far as football schematically," Hooker told InsidetheUtes.com. I think I'll fit in real good with their scheme and what they want to do."
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound outside backer also held offers from Arizona, Boise State, Oregon State and others. The recent visit to Salt Lake City seemed and the chance to see all that the program offered seemed to be just what Hooker needed to feel comfortable enough to commit.
"The education side of it things is academically sound and that is important," he said. "It's not too far from home. It's far enough but not too far."
Utah is close to a full class with Hooker's commitment, the 23rd for the class of 2012. He racked up eight sacks and picked off two passes last season as a senior.
"He shows good quickness, balance, and a nose for the ball," analyst Tom Lemming said. "A sure tackler who rarely misses, he's great at diagnosing plays, shows good ball skills, and makes plays in coverage. Needs to add weight and strength but the athletic ability is certainly there."
