UCLA took advantage of a shifting recruiting landscape on the West Coast by grabbing two commitments Sunday from Mission Viejo (Calif.) offensive lineman Colby Cyburt and Murrieta (Calif.) linebacker/defensive end Jeremy Castro.
"I committed to UCLA this weekend," Castro told Scout. "I mean, with the new coaching staff, the great academics and that its closer to home, it's perfect."
Cyburt held offers from schools such as Arizona, Colorado and Utah and joins a Bruins position group that badly needs reinforcements. The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Castro was previously committed to both Washington and Oregon before coming around to UCLA and says he's firmly committed just a week and a half before Signing Day.
"I feel comfortable at UCLA and that's the place for me," he said. "I'm done."
The pair bumps the Bruins' class of 2012 up to 26 commitments with Cyburt becoming the fifth offensive line pledge and Castro joining four other members of the front seven.
"He bends well off the edge, is excellent in pursuit, and shows very good closing speed," analyst Tom Lemming said of Castro. "The scouts love his motor and his potential. He uses his hands well and plays an aggressive brand of football. Has the frame to weigh 270 pounds in college and proves to be a natural athlete with long arms, quick feet, and a very good straight line speed."
