Florida has been looking to close out their impressive class of 2012 and added another talented defender on Monday when Clemmons (N.C.) defensive end Alex McCalister committed to the Gators at an announcement in his high school.

"It's definitely a dream come true," McCalister told "If you would have asked me about two years ago, I wouldn't have known what to say about college football. It's all a blessing, having the opportunity to play."

The 6-foot-6, 215-pound edge rusher will also stand up and play linebacker at times for Florida. He held offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, South Carolina and other schools but felt most comfortable with the Gators coaching staff.

"First, it's in the SEC, and they have great coaches," he said. "Coach [D.J.] Durkin, coach [Dan] Quinn, d-line coach [Bryant] Young are all great guys. Florida really hasn't signed anyone at my position yet. I feel like that is my best opportunity to get on the field if I do what I have to do to be successful."

McCalister gives Florida 20 commitments for the upcoming class, seven of which are defensive linemen.

"Alex shows very good athletic ability and gets good leverage for a 6-6 pass rusher," analyst Tom Lemming said. "Needs to add weight and strength but has that great first couple of steps and burst that the college scouts are looking for. He can bend off the edge and has been blessed with super long arms and quick hands. A good, steady high school player who could develop into an outstanding pass rushing DE in college."
