One of the most famous names -- and better quarterbacks -- in the class of 2012 has reportedly decided to head for the SEC.

Gator Country has reported that Skyler Mornhinweg, son of current Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator and former Detroit Lions head coach Marty Mornhinweg, has pledged to sign with Florida over Penn State. Skyler originally committed to Stanford as a rising sophomore at St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia, but switched to the Nittany Lions last summer when Jim Harbaugh left the Cardinal.

New Gator offensive coordinator Brent Pease and Marty Mornhinweg played together at Montana, potentially giving Pease a window in which to make his pitch to Skyler after the recent coaching transition at Penn State. Skyler visited Florida's campus last weekend, Gator Country reports.

At 6'3" and 190 pounds, Mornhinweg has been among his class's more highly-prized pro-style quarterbacks, with reported offers from programs like Tennessee and Illinois as well as Stanford, Penn State, and the Gators. Tom Lemming writes this in his evaluation of Mornhinweg:

He impresses you with his arm strength, poise, smarts, and overall game. You can tell he's the son of a coach, I watched him throw down in Phoenix last December and was impressed with his quick setup and even quicker release. Shows great poise and field vision, not a sprinter but he can escape the rush and buy time with his feet. A winner with a great attitude.

Mornhinweg becomes the 21st commitment --and only quarterback -- of Will Muschamp's impressive 2012 class. The Gators currently rank fourth in the Maxpreps team recruiting rankings.

I thought the caravan that was exiting Happy Valley was the thousands of Joe Pa mourners only to find out it's a legion of present and future Penn State football players that are getting out of Dodge as fast as they can.

Yea that's what I dug up by looking a little. I'm just finding out about the kid but it looks like he's got some potential and is improving overall, but yea, he's a high school kid and anything can happen regarding his game or his choice of school so hopefully it'll work out and he'll be fun to watch. He seems to be ranked pretty well by the scouting reports I've seen, and he seems to be a score for the Gators for now. I've been waiting awhile for the next Marino to come out of Pa. Cool

Mexican: Are you sure about those stats? They show that he's a 48% passer with about 14 yards a catch. That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence, considering that is what Brantly was averaging (yards per catch) last season.

How many other recruits has Penn State lost lately?

"Without the last name and notoriety of his father, this kid would be signing with Lehigh or Holy Cross."

Again you show just how knowledgeable you are about sports.

"As a sophomore, Mornhinweg completed 98 of 204 passes for 1543 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 76 times for 362 yards and five more scores. On defense, he had an interception and a fumble return for a touchdown from his free safety position.
As a freshman, Mornhinweg led the Philadelphia Catholic League with four interceptions as a free safety."

And most recently he threw 110 out of 229 for 1546 yards and 13 TD's. They say he's a great pocket passer that can run too.. and guess what.. he's from a Jesuit prep school! I would have thought you'd be giggly over the prospect of having another Tebow to give you something to focus your jealousy on instead of having to face your own teams lack luster performance for yet another year and have to watch their lack of ability to compete against the SEC come bowl time, but whatever. Enjoy. Cool

Oh, almost forgot: the "scenery" around Gainesville is world class: definitely much better than at State College.

And you would know this because you attended both?

You obviously have not been to State College! :)  Petty good scenery there too.

No way the "old guard" sabotage BOB.  Joe embraced his hire and the Penn State family will too.  Good luck to Skylar, I hope he has a great career at Florida.  Penn State will be just fine.
