Bylsma doesn't see Crosby returning soon

With every passing day bringing us closer and closer to the playoffs, the mystery remains unsolved: Will Sidney Crosby play? Where's the Mystery Machine when you need it?

Well, Penguins coach Dan Bylsma is leading us to believe that Crosby certainly won't be playing when the postseason begins next week. That much seems pretty certain.

From NHL.com:

"We've said it before and continue to say it -- he has a couple more steps to go in his rehabilitation before he can even think about returning to play," Bylsma told reporters. "I don't know how fast that's going to happen, I don't know if that's going to happen. There's no way to even make a timetable. And considering that he has two more steps to go through, it would seem like anything in the immediate future is out of the question."
Of course the return of Crosby would be huge for the Pens. They have surprised some by playing so well without The Kid and Evgeni Malkin in the lineup. Here it is the final weekend of the year, and Pittsburgh is hanging in the race for the No. 2 seed on the division title. That would be an amazing feat for a team that lost two players of that quality midseason. But the power play has struggled for weeks. Oh, and he's Sidney Crosby, ya know, perhaps the best player in the game?

They for sure won't see Geno back this year, but Crosby remains possible. He's been out since New Year's when he suffered a concussion. But at this point, it's seeming less and less likely. With the way Pittsburgh has played despite his absence, though, imagine what the Pens would be capable of if their superstar can return?

Bylsma doesn't see Crosby returning soon

"The Matt Cooke LEGAL HIT cowardly, at the time legal however blindside and definitely cheapshot hit was Savard's 4th or 5th Concussion - the damage was already done at that point. Had Savard been properly treated the first or second time his career may not be over.

Fixed it for you, though in truth. the Cooke hit could have easily been considered illegal. It has always been illegal in the NHL to attempt to injure another player. The way Cooke thrust his shoulder intentionally at Savard's head when he skated by him, targettting only Savard's head, it would be easy to draw the conclusion that it was an attempt to injure, thus illegal. Had I been Campbell, that is the way I would have played such a cowardly, cheap hit. But, leave it to the NHL to err on the side of idiocy.

But back to the topic... Sid's concussion. I think it is quite possible the Pens have already shut Sid down for the year, not taking any chances. Bu7t, why not let the other team's think there might be a chance they'd have to face him? If they don't SAy 'Sid is out until next season', other teams still have to take into consideration contingencies if he plays.

As to whether the Pens with Sid would be considered a lock... Let's see, with Sid they were 0-2-1 vs. the Caps this year. Last year with Sid they were 0-4-0, and the season prior 0-3-1, or 4-6-1 if you count the playoffs. So I can see why you would think the Pens would roll through the East. That would be a total lack of memory and thought processes.

Bylsma doesn't see Crosby returning soon

Everyone needs to realize that ya Matt Cooke may be hitting people to hard n in bad positions sometimes, but ultimately its hockey... punish him like they have been doing is just fine with me. I would never ask him to slow down or back off. Thats why James Harrison is the man to... Dont tell a guy who gets paid to hit people to back off because the league thinks he wants to hurt people. They are pro athletes and alot of those guys are good friends off the ice. Get off the Cooke Wagon, he is a hard strong player who does mess people up.. But there are plenty of others they just hide it better and he doesnt care what u think of him.
And you wonder why people think Penguin fans are morons.

This comment does not help either.

If Sidney Crosby could make it back for the playoffs, with the way this team has been playing, the Pens would be virtually untouchable - almost a lock for the Cup.

Post concussion syndrome..... is that a fancy name for chicken shit ???. Like all other multi-million dollar athletes he's quick to take the money and doesn't want to do anything to earn it. Well Sid the whimp you've let down your team, Cole Harbour and all your fans, you have a "GAY" old time spending your money.

Is this Brian Pothier all over again? Post concussion syndrome? Don't hide it, tell us the true issues/prognosis. Bylsma's quote is somewhat open-ended and leads to more questions than answers.

Being a Caps fan, and as much as I have grown to despise the Pens, this type of injury is concerning. Could you imagine the Great One, Yzerman, Hull, Super Mario, or even my beloved Ovie being unable to skate competitively w/o balance or coordination? I truly miss the match-up against the Crosby-led Pens. I may "hate" the Pens, but to know that 'Cindy' is going through this ordeal makes him more of a human being than a bitter rival.

However, I do hope that someone knock the living snot out of Matt Cooke and sends him home for the summer. No tears there baby! No wonder the Caps wouldn't even entertain keeping you on our roster..... Piece of c***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good analysis. But I think the East, be it Pitt, Philly, Boston, or the Caps, will give the West all they can handle.I wouldn't mind seeing the Caps and Canucks in the Finals.
