Report: Lucic not suspended for Game 7

Posted on: April 27, 2011 2:26 pm

After receiving a game misconduct and a five-minute major for boarding in Game 6, Milan Lucic will not be suspended for Game 7, Nick Kypreos of Rogers Sports net in Canada reports.

It answers a big question that was raised the instant Lucic was sent to the locker room early for his crushing hit on Jaroslav Spacek. Debate has raged since the hit of whether it was the right call or too severe. Either way, it's a moot point now as the series reaches the pinnacle, Game 7 tonight in Beantown.

Lucic was a key player for the Bruins' scoring punch this season, netting 30 goals to complement his 32 assists. But in this series the Habs have done a good job keeping him in check as Lucic has just one assist in the six games with a minus-1 rating and 17 penalty minutes (greatly assisted by the Game 6 misconduct).

The Bruins and Canadiens face off at 7 p.m. ET tonight for the eighth Game 7 in the storied rivalry's history, the most times of any two teams in NHL playoff history. For a breakdown of the game, click here . Watch the hit in question below.

Totally agree. We learn how to take hits at the age of 12 so there is no excuse for turning into the boards. Coaches are on you from day 1 about that. This is exactly why contact is a necessity for kids. The US and Europe have to start letting the kids hit at least at pee wee level or they're setting themselves up for major injuries when they come up here for tourneys or if they make the CHL.

I'd say the Habs' pp has been alright, but the b's d is generally up to the task.B's pp needs a viagra.
Whether every goalie does it or not, you don't generally see a goalie interference call that is as feigned as that one.I disagree about your intididation theory. About halfway through game3, the b's decided to start skating. The big tough guy thing hasn't worked for the b's against Montreal all season. Refs know they're a "finesse" team and call the game soft for them (plus the obvious diving). Maybe not on purpose, but it's there. A lot of bad calls between these 2 teams, you know?

The refs gave Lucic a tremendous punishment because of what happened, but thats where this should end.

It sucks that the guy got hurt but Lucic clearly was just playing hard-nosed hockey. Thats it. I hope Spacek doesnt get put on the IR, but seriously, its just a hit. The refs handled it.

The same nonsense is was (sorry Sabre fans) getting stirred up with the Richards hit.

This is exactly why I always liked the Bruins (as a Flyers fan). They play good physical hockey that borderlines the edge just like the Flyers, and the rest of the world blows up when a guy gets hurt. They get in the same dilemmas as the Flyers. I love it. Especially when they do it against the Habs.

My enemy's enemy is my enemy... but in a series with the Canadiens (who I loathe like no other)... my enemy's enemy is my friend.

Good luck Boston, and I can't wait to beat your buts in the second round. But Goddamnit I respect you.

ezwind, every single goalie in the league uses that tactic to force opposing players to keep their distance. "The B's have done some acting this series too" -- exactly. The Bruins got lots of penalties in the first few games, because Claude "Tough Guy" Julien thought he could win by intimidation. Didn't work, and the Bruins still don't have a power play goal, which is what has really cost them, not penalties. Even Montreal's power play isn't that great, nowhere near 33% effective like it's been the last couple of seasons.

Read your post after I commented.  I couldnt agree more about turning INTO the boards.  Good call.  Too many of these "victims" set themselves up.

I keep watching and I can't figure out why Spacek turned his right foot in the opposite direction.  The only explanation was he knew the hit was coming (to brace himself) thus not making this a quote unquote hit on an unsuspecting player.  As a skater he would've been moving up with the play but got caught.  It is Lucic but I don't know what is dirty anymore.  These are crushing hits and I keep seeing skaters being "not smart" when they go into the boards or keep their heads down.  YouTube Malkin blowing the wheels off Darien Hatcher - proper skating.  Some of these "players" would not be alive in the 70's and they are getting paid 10x as much.

Glad Lucic didn't get suspended for the hit, don't think he should have been ejected from the game either but it is what it is. Should be a great game seven. Still recovering from Campoli's giveaway last night so some good hockey from elsewhere should be a good cure.
