Report: Lucic not suspended for Game 7

Posted on: April 27, 2011 2:26 pm

After receiving a game misconduct and a five-minute major for boarding in Game 6, Milan Lucic will not be suspended for Game 7, Nick Kypreos of Rogers Sports net in Canada reports.

It answers a big question that was raised the instant Lucic was sent to the locker room early for his crushing hit on Jaroslav Spacek. Debate has raged since the hit of whether it was the right call or too severe. Either way, it's a moot point now as the series reaches the pinnacle, Game 7 tonight in Beantown.

Lucic was a key player for the Bruins' scoring punch this season, netting 30 goals to complement his 32 assists. But in this series the Habs have done a good job keeping him in check as Lucic has just one assist in the six games with a minus-1 rating and 17 penalty minutes (greatly assisted by the Game 6 misconduct).

The Bruins and Canadiens face off at 7 p.m. ET tonight for the eighth Game 7 in the storied rivalry's history, the most times of any two teams in NHL playoff history. For a breakdown of the game, click here . Watch the hit in question below.

Report: Lucic not suspended for Game 7

Sure I'm a B's fan, but the diving on the Canadiens' part is shameful. That Price performance was totally ridicuous. He clearlly throws his blocker out to get a little contact and then spins to the ice like he got shot. The B's have done some acting this series too, but come on.
I also think that Lucic should have gotten maximum 2 min for that hit. Just watch the vid. He knows the hit is coming and Lucic finishes his check, albeit with authority, but hockey is a tough game. Then another acting job and bam, 5 min and game mis.
Tack on at least 1 very obvious offsides missed and a few hooks/slashing/interference, especially the one before the bad whistle where Thomas didn't have the puck, and here we are. At least the goal didn't count, or that woud have been a way bigger deal. B's are atrocious on the pp anyway.
The real critique of the Bruins is allowing themselves to get into those 5 on 3's. They've got to be smarter than that, even though they were both kind of flukey penalties, but certainly warranted.
Here's hoping the refs either choke on their whistes tonight or at least call it even. And for the love of the green earth, call penalties on those silly flippity flop floppers. It cheapens the sport and insults the integrity of the game.

if it was for the blood it would have been 4 min like a highstick when you draw blood

Actually 4 min or 5 min is at the discretion of the referee in regards to intent.I must say your taste in football teams is far superior to your hockey team

High voltage learn hockey before you speak. For the first 5 on 3 the guys stick was slashed in half they usually don't break like that for no reason. The second 5 on 3 the guy shot the puck over the glass its an automatic penalty. Plus the fact the refs knew they screwed up the first goal had to try and even things out, its the game.

It wasn't really a disallowed goal...It was a puck that Montreal shot in the net well after the whistle went so there was never actually a goal to disallow...Sure they blew the whistle early but they did the same thing to the Bruins later in the game when the puck was free in the crease. The only difference was the Bruins never shot the puck in the net after the whistle. There was really nothing to debate about with this "disallowed" goal...Btw, How come it's alright for the Habs to hammer Chara from behind without a call?? They clearly did that twice in the game including during the final minute of and there was no call. Probably just because it's Chara and he's a beast and the hit didn't knock him down, but I still say a hit from behind into the boards is a hit from behind into the boards...Punishment shouldn't differ because the result is different because of the difference in size.

Spacek, IMO, milked the reaction of falling to the ice and acting as if he'd gotten really hurt to draw the extra time.

He must have "milked" the blood too right. He recieved 5 min because of the bleeding. I don't agree with players turning their backs to avoid hits but the NHL has put the onus on the hitter to protect the players

He must of milked the blood too. He recieved the five because he boarded him and drew blood. I don't agree with guys turning at the last moment but the onus is on the hitter for the players safety.
