Report: Lucic not suspended for Game 7

Posted on: April 27, 2011 2:26 pm

After receiving a game misconduct and a five-minute major for boarding in Game 6, Milan Lucic will not be suspended for Game 7, Nick Kypreos of Rogers Sports net in Canada reports.

It answers a big question that was raised the instant Lucic was sent to the locker room early for his crushing hit on Jaroslav Spacek. Debate has raged since the hit of whether it was the right call or too severe. Either way, it's a moot point now as the series reaches the pinnacle, Game 7 tonight in Beantown.

Lucic was a key player for the Bruins' scoring punch this season, netting 30 goals to complement his 32 assists. But in this series the Habs have done a good job keeping him in check as Lucic has just one assist in the six games with a minus-1 rating and 17 penalty minutes (greatly assisted by the Game 6 misconduct).

The Bruins and Canadiens face off at 7 p.m. ET tonight for the eighth Game 7 in the storied rivalry's history, the most times of any two teams in NHL playoff history. For a breakdown of the game, click here . Watch the hit in question below.

Report: Lucic not suspended for Game 7

Hab fans...watch the video...go frame by frame at 33 seconds and you will see that Spacek is turning to avoid the hit...Lucic is actually making contact as he starts to turn to avoid the hit and also Lucic hits him nowhere near the head...there was no intent to injure and Spacek was not facing the boards initially as Lucic hits him ...unfortunately for Bruin fans this is a penalty as the brunt of the force was when Spacek was facing the boards but it comes down to timing of the contact so its the right call albeit the argument could be made it didn't warrant 5 minutes, but the league is cracking down on it and it would have been called the same if it was a Canadien who made the hit. Spacek was trying to turn to avoid the hit at the last second...most boarding penalties the player is already clearly facing the boards and then gets hit squarley in the back and pushed into the boards. It's the right call but there certainly shouldn't be a suspension so saying the Bruins get away with cheap shots is ignorant and whining...which is typical

Too funny.  However, the disallowed goal was a good call right?

Report: Lucic not suspended for Game 7

I definitely agree that the hit wasn't worthy of a 5-minute major. 2 minutes, absolutely. It was a hard hit into the boards, qualifying for a boarding call. Spacek, IMO, milked the reaction of falling to the ice and acting as if he'd gotten really hurt to draw the extra time.

I do think the Horton slash was absolutely bogus. It looked to me like a clean turnover. (If someone has video that'll show me otherwise... I'll change my tone on that)

This was a bogus call.  If anything it was a 2 minute roughing or boarding penalty.  No 5 minute major no game misconduct.  It was a clean hit and Spacek saw the hit coming.  His natural reaction was to turn away from the hit.  He turned his back to Lucic.  His head got smashed into the glass.  Ouch it hurts move on.  The real shame was to then call another penalty and make it 5 on 3.  Then the slashing call on Horton was the worst call of the night.  The guy slashed him right back 1 second later and there was no call.  IT SEEMS LIKE SOMEBODY WANTED TO SEE GAME 7.  Wether it was the referees or the NHL.  It definately looked like the fix was in.  Two 5 on 3 opportunities in a playoff game come on!  You got to be kidding me.
