Stanley Cup Finals schedule is set

We don't know who will be playing the Canucks in the Stanley Cup Finals, but we know when the games will be played.

Game 1 will start in Vancouver on Wednesday, June 1 -- it just seems so wrong playing hockey in June, but I digress. Game 2 won't be played until Saturday, an extra day off thrown in because of arena conflicts.

If the series goes to a Game 7, it won't come until Wednesday June 15.

Every game, despite being in different time zones, will start at 8 ET, which equals a 5 o'clock puck drop in Vancouver. I'm sure there will be plenty of "doctor's appointments" or whatever other excuse you can come up with to get out of work early.

All games will be broadcast on either NBC or Versus in the U.S.

Stanley Cup Finals schedule is set

The reason i think they didn't start it Sunday or Monday was that alot of ppl are going out of town for the holiday....The NHL don't wana break up any famlies because dad choose to go to the game instead of family vacation......Then again we do have a strange commisioner so no one is gona ever figure him out.

I hear royal's side of it pretty clearly. Wings may have won the first 2, but they had guys pulling monster minutes to make up for injuries and had been doing it for multiple series. Have to say that a few days would have been nice since apparently this year shows that it's an option. And back to back games for anyone in any series, especially the final, is just straight bush league.

I don't understand why they didn't get Game 1 to start on Sunday or Monday, so they would get a bigger audience to start things off with. Starting on Wednesday is not going to get the causal sports fan excited about the Cup Finals. I expect this to be a great series (Go Bruins!!!) and if the casual sports fan were to see it on Sunday or Monday when they are relaxing and looking for a good sporting event to watch, they might get into it, and watch the rest of the series.

Hockey is never wrong, but if it didn't go until June, you'd have to start the season in August-Sept (when NFL starts) which wouldn't make sesne..I remember the 1995 Cup almost went into July though!

Wow the Stanley Cup starting AFTER the NBA finals!  Didn't the hockey season start about 3 weeks before the NBA?

Oh is this going to be like two years ago when they announced the finals would begin on June 2nd - the the Wings beat chicago in 5 and Gary BUTTHEAD allowed NBC to move games one and two back to back with only 2 days rest?? You know, the Wings that were beat up and needed the 5 plus days off to get healthy. What joke! F off BUTTMAN YOU FREAKING TROLL DOLL.

You are complaining about this when the Wings won both of those games?

What exactly do you consider afternoon? 8:00 PM local time means earliest starts are for 5:00 depending on east or west coast broadcast. Actually, your comment doesn't really make sense.....on one hand, sounds like you don't want afternoon weekend games, then on the other.........Scheduling is set in order to try and get some exposure on NBC. That is GOOD for the league. Maybe catch the casual viewers attention.

Truly tired of some people knocking Bettman's every move. Maybe some should try to be commisioner for a day, see how well you would do!Frown
