Brashear wins MMA debut in just 21 seconds

It sure didn't take Donald Brashear long to make an impact in the MMA world. We mean that literally.

Check out this video from Brashear's debut bout against Mathieu Bergeron. The longtime NHL bruiser takes just 21 seconds to defeat Bergeron, taking him down to the ground and pummeling him with a bevy of downward strikes until the fight is called.

Admittedly, I don't know much about MMA, especially enough to know about this Bergeron fellow. I do know he was a last-minute replacement and has little MMA history of which to speak. But even if he is a tomato can, it's still a pretty damn impressive start for Brashear.

"I'm having fun learning it," the 39-year-old Brashear said. "I haven't done much fighting yet. I love learning it and the fight was fun."

He has a contract for two more fights, so perhaps next time we'll get to see what he can do for a little longer.

Of course, if you want to see his greatest hits from the NHL, hockeyfights.com is always good.

As someone who has spent time amongst real killers, I can tell you that the majority of MMA fighters are opportunistic girly-men, welter-weights who couldn't or wouldn't seek a career in the boxing world. Your average marine could kill most MMA fighters inside of 12 seconds, and a true brute like Brashear (an ex-boxer) is more than a match for amateurs or pros.
Seriously??? Boxers who try to do MMA get wasted because it is a ground-heavy battle, with wrestlers and jiu-jitsu fighters dominating. Now, yes, there are thousands of guys who do MMA and claim they are MMA fighters, even though they may fight in some internet-league. As for your average marine killing an MMA fighter in less than 12 seconds, you just lost all credibility. I respect the Core and all the Marines fighting for our country but c'mon, the average Marine? Brian Stann, a football star at Navy, winner of the Silver Star for his heroics, was probably top of the food chain in terms of a Marine fighters. Stann has done extremely well as a PRO fighter, but he has lost. As for Brashear, he is not a PRO, he is an ex-hockey player, boxer who, like many pro athletes, it challenging himself and testing his skills. I agree to disagree.

He was apparently another guy making his "professional debut". They're all amateurs though, which is why MMA struggles as a niche "sport".

...So i belive that this was all staged for Money and a boost for the MMA.
Exactly. One of the many reasons why few people take MMA seriously. Brashear signed a 3-fight contract though, so is he a legitimate pro after his third fight ? Does he need to fight some big name like Kimbo Slice or Georges St. Pierre and win before MMA afficionados accept him ?

Bro, either you are totally joking or have no clue about the sport. I know a bunch of pro MMA fighters and as a former college football player, and someone who can throw and take a punch, I would not even try them. Do not cluster amateur MMA fighters with Pro MMA fighters because you are doing an injustice to the sport. Brashear would get his skull kicked in or choked out in 2 minutes with a pro MMA "Enforcer"
Oh, so sorry to be pissing on your favorite "sport". Let me guess, you also enjoy monster truck pulls and dog fighting. The only reason MMA gets fans at all is that boxing is too boring and too rigged these days to draw enough casual fans to be profitable.

MMA fighters are wussies. This proves it; a 39-year-old hockey goon (albeit a very good one) is able to beat the piss out of some karate-jujitsu wannabe. Tonya Harding would've done better.
<
br />Sounds like you got your A$$ beat down in your first fight and the doctors told you not to fight again. What an idiotic post- Ignorance is bliss.
