NHL official wants "garbage" to end

BOSTON -- Beyond the league’s attempts to eliminate head hits, the NHL's fill-in disciplinarian wants the shenanigans -- like the ones that occurred at the end of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final -- to disappear.

“I will be speaking with both general managers and coaches before the day's over about the crap that we are seeing, the garbage that is going on [and] some of the issues,” said Mike Murphy, the NHL’s senior VP of hockey operations.

Nine game misconduct penalties were called, all over the final 14 minutes of Monday’s 8-1 Bruins victory. That’s not counting the game misconduct Vancouver defenseman Aaron Rome received for his first-period check that left Boston’s Nathan Horton with a severe concussion. In total, there were 145 minutes worth of penalties.

Bruins coach Claude Julien, who chastised his players for taunts in Game 3, expects the series to return to some form of normalcy in Game 4.

“What you see with the extra pushes and shoves after whistles are things you see in the playoff finals with the intensity,” Julien said. “The referees have done a pretty good job of controlling that. I don't see an issue there.”

Murphy has stepped in for the league’s normal disciplinarian, Colin Campbell. He had to recuse himself from the series since his son, Gregory, plays for the Boston Bruins. Kris King, another member of the hockey operations staff, has also been involved in policing the finals, Murphy said.

Canucks defenseman Sami Salo said while things may have devolved late in Monday’s rout, he doesn’t think officials have lost control.

“All the three series that we played so far have been hard-fought,” Salo said. “Things happen all the time, so [it’s] nothing that crazy.”

NHL official wants "garbage" to end

The Officals Gave the Canucks the series against the Sharks  game 3  2- 5 on 3 power plays for the full 2 minutes

Sorry you missed that game but no, the officials didn't give the Canucks anything... the Sharks gave the Canucks everything.  Those 2 man advantages for the most part were calls the refs had no choice but to make.  On one a Sharks player shot the puck in the stands in his own end which is an automatic penalty... the refs can't ignore that.  On another a Shark came on the ice too early and played the puck within a split second from landing on the ice... refs can't ignore too many men penalties let alone when the extra man plays the puck right away.

I'm not a Vancouver fan at all...if anything I'm cheering for Boston in the finals... but don't let the Sharks off the hook.... they didn't get the job done against the Canucks...  they didn't deserve to beat the Canucks...

The Officals Gave the Canucks the series against the Sharks  game 3  2- 5 on 3 power plays for the full 2 minutes  they where on the power play the whole series  despite being outplayed badly most of the series  at even strength..... they won the series on the power play (that's why it was sweet to see Boston score those shorthanded goals )in the final game the icing play which hit Sedin in the arm and shouldn't have been called icing and would have run out the game . instead a face off and Kesler scores

Thank you Mike Murphy. I would like to see the Stanley Cup awarded to a hockey team, you know, one that actually plays hockey instead of the bs we saw in game three. After that immature, selfish crap neither team deserves it at this point. Stanley Cup Final should be full of great hockey. This, however, was similar to what happened between Barcelona and Real Madrid when they played each other so many times a few weeks ago, a complete devolution and disgrace. Let's hope both teams can put it behind them.
