"We don't need the Cup, we just need to clean up. That's our new slogan."

That coming from a fan of the Canucks and a proud resident of Vancouver.

Locals disgusted by what they saw after the Canucks lost the Cup took to the ravaged, looted and vandalized streets of Vancouver to clean up and help restore the city to where it was before.

The city took a beating in perception that will be incredibly tough to recover from. But this is a good start. It's always important to remember when things like the riot after Game 7 happen that you can't paint a city's residents with broad brush strokes. It's only fair to point out the good after the bad, so that's why we're here.

"What happened last night doesn't really represent Vancouver and the hockey fans or anything like that," one volunteer said. "It was really just a group of people that came out and had to ruin it for everybody else. So we're here to show we love Vancouver and to show that it should be beautiful for everybody, too."

"I don't want the rest of the world or anybody who lives in the city to think what happened last night is any reflection on the type of people in this city," another said.

Good for you Vancouver! I have lived in Boston for most of my life and have had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful city a few times. I have NEVER met more friendly, happy, vibrant people and I have traveled quite a bit in my lifetime. I have to honestly say that if the tables were turned and it was Boston that had been desecrated ( and a Bruins loss would have all but guaranteed this! ) I'm not sure there would have been quite the turn out to help clean up.

And rememberthis.....just one short year ago the Bruins were up 3-0 to Philly and LOST the series even after leading 3-0 in the seventh game! Believe me Bruins fans KNOW how much it sucks for Vancouver fans right now. I think that heartbreaking loss was the motivation the Bruins needed heading into this year and look at the result! So....take heart Vancouver, you have a great team and now they are HUNGRY! Maybe we'll see you in the finals again next year!

Keep the peace!!

Well it's least thing that they can do for the city of Vancouver since they were the ones that did damage to the city! Now if they would have won the Stanley Cup there would have been substantial damage to the city, but not in the form of a riot, and vandalization. But because they lost the Cup,"choked" and got served a "donut" on home ice in Game 7....I really do think that that was why the fans acted like they did because they take hockey way more serious in Canada than in the US.....which also could be another reason for why they act like they did.

We have all heard plenty of whining from island folks over the years. Complaining all the time without ever helping anything in any way. You really can't speak to this as clearly you are biased by your weak position and lack of big city reality.  Keep quiet until you do something positive yourself.

stevephoenix, are you still going to post your idiotic thoughts after the Coyotes move to Canada?  Make sure you have your passport on you at all times too, wouldn't want you to get arrested for mistakenly being an illegal immigrant.

Im reading some classic bandwagon posts from canucks em when their up and leap firmly off the wagon when their down....and oh yes, trash talk the players, coaching staff and anyone associated with the team...

I`ve written here for years and have been to many canucks games. I`ve supported them through thick and thin and believe the cup will be ours oneday...and on that day these posters who trash talk my team will be first in line saying " I always kew they could do it.!"...

I do firmly agree that it wasnt a "handful" of people who caused this. I`ve been running bars for years and "handfuls" of people sometimes cause a drunken disturbances in my bar...This downtown core of Vancouver was ravaged by thousands and thousands of drunked, high, angry people both young and old determined to destroy and vent their anger at beautiful Vancouver because the team they support did not win.......theres a lot more than a hanful of guilt in this crowd...

All of Vancouver and Canada and it's low down people should not only clean up Vancouver but also pay a big fine to the NHL for being iditos like usually or if not then take the NHL from Canada for good because lot's face it they don't care about hockey anymore and the only reason the NHL is bad right now is because of them and until they show class and support the NHL or really the USA NHL trhen we the USA will take hockey away from these iditios in Canada for every.

I am a Canadian living on Vancouver Island. I believe that those rioting idiots really were Cancuk fans!! And stop saying that it was only a small amount of people !!!! it was not!! Do not try and justify the rioting by saying the real fans were the ones cleaning up afterwards !!! of course people were going to come and help clean up the next day !! The city/team does not deserve anything ever !!! until you rid your team of genuine douche bags (kessler/bieksa) and diving sallies (sedins, burrows, lapierre) you will always come up short. Oh yah not to mention your fat head whiny baby GM mike gillies. I cheer for the team not where the team is from...2010 mens Canadian olympic team was Canada's team, not these idiots.
