Report: Flyers, Bryzgalov agree on 9-year deal

Ilya Bryzgalov has agreed to a nine-year, $51 million deal with the Philadelphia Flyers, TSN’s Gord Miller reported Thursday afternoon. The signing comes in a frantic afternoon that previously saw the Flyers trade captain Mike Richards and Jeff Carter.

The Flyers acquired the rights for Bryzgalov, who was set to become a free agent on July 1, from the Phoenix Coyotes earlier this month. GM Paul Holmgren obviously agreed with most of the hockey community that the goaltending position is the main thing holding the team back after they used three goalies in this year’s playoffs.

Jhussy, ever hear of Claude Giroux, James vanReimsdyk, Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell, Kirs Versteeg, Villie Leino.

No he has not, he is a Pens fan. Everyone knows Pens fans only care about their crybaby and know nothing else about the NHL.

Damn that is alot of cash for a goalie that isnt so great in the playoffs.   Wings scored pretty easily on him in the playoffs last season.  Good Luck.

Why did it take the Flyers so long to sign a good goaltender??  Pitching in baseball, QB in football, Bigman or PG in basketball and GOALIE IN HOCKEY.  

If the other team can't score you don't lose.  Ask the city in flames Vancouver about that.  After setting the city ablaze all Canucks fans went around beating up all guys names Thomas (Tom too).  

The Flyers will contend for the Cup in 2012 and if they can replace some of the offense they traded today in Carter and Richardson, they could even win it.  

You read it here first -- Flyer take out the Penguins and the Canucks take out the Sharks -- Flyers vs. Canucks for cup in 2012.

the Flyers aren't like the Pens where if we lose a star player or two, we are dead in the water.

yup dead in the water without their superstars they sunk so far down they managed to tie their previous best season ever, and finish the season tied with the flyers for first in the division.

ok got the flyer hatred out of the way, im good now.

Good day for the flyers I think, you lost a couple of your main pieces but a top 10 pick, Voracek will be good, and Brayden schenn was a steal. I don't know how you steal one of the top prospects around from someone, Makes me wonder how things are ran in LA. You guys pulled off the things you needed to do to win this year, and to improve your teams future for the next decade, this this day will be remembered for a long time n philly.

Jhussy, ever hear of Claude Giroux, James vanReimsdyk, Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell, Kirs Versteeg, Villie Leino. Plus Voracek and Simmonds are two pretty decent players. Schenn will be a great player in a few years as well. Plus who knows what they can do with the first round pick at number 8. You can write the Flyers off all you want, but I promise you, the Flyers aren't like the Pens where if we lose a star player or two, we are dead in the water.
