Former Flyers star Eric Lindros told a Toronto radio station on Wednesday that he will take part in the Winter Classic Alumni Game, ending the speculation if he would or not.

"Yeah, Paul Holmgren gave me a shout about a month and a half ago, and we talked back and forth a little bit," Lindros told Greg Brady and Jim Lang on the Fan 590 in Toronto. "I was real happy to hear his voice and to get the invitation and yeah, I told him a while back that I’d fly down and have some fun.

"I haven’t seen Johnny [John LeClair] in a little while. I know they’re trying to get in touch with Mikael [Renberg], I've been trying myself."

Of course Renberg and LeClair made up the other 2/3 of the Legion of Doom line in Philadelphia. (Side note: It makes me sad to see how old footage from the 1990s looks now.)

That line was so good it totaled 176 points in just 48 games of the strike-shortened 1994-95 season.

The hope is that they will all be back for the game. Lindros confirmed what most assumed considering LeClair still lives in the Philly area, that one of his linemates will join him. As for Renberg, well they are still awaiting word there. But you have to assume they'll get him on the ice, right? You can't bring back only a part of the line, you have to bring it all back. It's like Led Zeppelin going on tour without Robert Plant, at that point it's just some really good guys in a band.

More good news for the Flyers fans? Holmgren tells Pierre LeBrun of that the old LCB line will be back, too.

“That’s the plan, though: to have Eric’s line back together, as well as [Bobby Clarke]’s line with [Reggie] Leach and [Bill] Barber and other famous lines in Flyers history,” said Holmgren.

The rumor mill has it that the Rangers are trying to get Wayne Gretzky to play on their alumni team, but no answer as of yet. If he does sign up, I wonder how fans are going to like that ticket policy for the Winter Classic then?

The Legion of Doom! Gimmie a break! They were so over rated! More like the Legion of No Cups! They didn't win crap! Oh big wow they made it to one final appearance! If they were so great and dominant like all the Flygirls fans thought they were, they would have found a way to overcome the Jersey Devils and their dull, boring and ruining the NHL trap! Living in South Jersey I got great joy watching the Devils and their dull, boring, ruining the NHL trap win 3 cups in 9 years! While the Flygirls and their over rated, over hyped Legion of No Cups won absolutely nothing! Keep your head up this time Lindros at the Winter Classic.

As much as I hate to admit. Eric Lindros was good. And if he hadn't recieved numerious injuries. He would be a sure fire Hall Of Famer. I still have his original Starline Poster. The one where he's at home and it reads: LINDROS. Super Mario could sleep well knowing his stats where safe 'cos Eric didn't realize that the trend of average player was inching oh so close to his frame and at every annual NHL gradulating class. A line of hungry 6' 3" players where zooming in on the wannabe Super Mario throne inheritor. So Eric like Paul Kariya hurt the one thing which you can not no rehab. Your coconut! By year 4. His frame was the norm. Boy. You're right Eric. Mario is too soft?! He outlasted you! Still. I wish Eric PLAYED like Sidney Crosby & Mario Lemieux. He would have eclipsed Bobby Clarke's records and become immortal. If only Eric...

Dude that was the most exciting time in hockey.  E proved he was an incredible talent when he came back and scored in tight spot and then again with half a second left for a disallowed goal.  The Flyers should've won and would have beat the Stars because they matched up best.  Now I'm a realist, if Colorado had made it instead of the Stars it would've been a good one but not sure of the outcome.
Thanks E,  sorry your parents were such a pain in the A.

I'm looking forward to seeing 88 do something... anything... with the Flyers. The worst part about being a Philly fan, is that because we usually never win anything in the end, we always have a bitter ending with those who were superstars. It sucks. With that in mind, its time to close the chapter of bitterness between Lindros, the Flyers, and the fans. The Winter Classic should be great for this.

BTW, In addition to the recent lose to the Blackhawks in the Stanely Cup finals, the Flyers also lost in 1987 in game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to the greatest hockey team ever assembled... the Edmonton Oilers (Gretzky, Messier, Fuhr, Tikkanen, Kurri, McSorley, MacTavish, etc..)   Just because they haven't win the whole thing since 1975 doesn't mean they haven't been a great team in many years since.

The Devils almost ruined hockey and the NHL for good.   The Devils may have won it all but they were the most BORING team to watch EVER with the neutral zone trap which just about ruined hockey and forced rule changes.   They won all their games 2-1 or 1-0...  It made the NHL as interesting as watching paint dry...  The whole idea of the trap was to level the playing field for teams that are not as offensively talented.  It is one of the reasons the the 2004 NHL lockout happened.   It is the reason the NHL ordered officials to call every obstruction penalty, regardless of circumstance. It also lead to the removal of the two-line pass penalty.  Kudos to the Devils for coming up with that system and for winning Stanley Cups but their style of play was boring for even their own fans to watch.

Lindros went to the 1997 Stanley Cup finals and lost to arguably the best Redwings teams ever... which is one of the great teams of all time.  He's a Hart trophy winner and he will be in the HOF despite having his career cut short by concusions.

Two things to note about this video:

1. None of the highlights showed them playing against the NJ Devils.

2. Flyers have not won the Stanley Cup during or since this "Legion of Dorks" line played together. (Last Cup win was 1975)

Why was this article even written?

not sure if Torts woulda had a shot to break them up in that case, clueless. That line was nasty! Especially as noted in the strike season.

Nice play at 1:38 in the video.

Legion of Doom was great, but the better combo was the Crazy Eights.  Brent

As for Lindros in the WC.....keep ya head up!!
