With the Islanders leading, 3-2, midway through the secod period one of their top defenseman, Travis Hamonic, was assessed a five-minute major for elbowing as well as a game misconduct for a hit on Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik. The call resulted in a two-man advantage for the Penguins that included the game-tying goal from James Neal, his second goal of the game.

After watching the replay, it's difficult to see why Hamonic was penalized, let alone ejected.

You can check out the play by clicking right here.

Orpik did leave the ice and head to the locker room, later returning with a noticable cut on the top part of his nose. But based on that look it appears to be the result of his own stick hitting him in the face rather than Hamonic's Elbow, which doesn't appear to make any contact with Orpik's head.

Bad call that shouldn't result in any additional punishment (or even a look) from the NHL.

Pittsburgh went on to win the game, 6-3.

Wow I'm a Ranger fan and that may be the worst call I've ever seen. The ref who made that call should get suspended without pay for a few games. Amazing how Bettman (the man trying to ruin hockey) holds only the players accountable for their actions.

Typical call in favor of the Kiss The A$$ of the Crosby franchise by Bettman's gelded zebras.

I think worst call ever may be stretching it a little bit.  Anyone seen the guy who got called for tripping even though the guy who was tripped said it was the ref that tripped him?

That said.  It was an awful call, and the fact that it was one of fave players doing the dive.  Just makes it that much worse.

Usually when somebody says "I am not whinning or anything" a whine is sure to follow....as in this case.  I agree, bad call.

Ths is ABSURD. one of the WORST calls EVER. but a great FAKE by Orpik to fool the officials into ONE OF THE WORST CALLS EVER. good job officials! and yes i think the officials in this game were against the Islanders from the opening face-off. but this is typical of the league against the Islanders. and i'm not crying or whining, i'm just talking REALITY. this incident is just so BLATANTLY WRONG and INVALID...cant wait to see what Shanahan has to say.

Crosby couldn't play so Bettman let him ref this game.
