'Hawks' Bolland rips Sedin 'sisters,' Vancouver

If you are looking for drawbacks in the NHL's realignment plan -- you likely aren't, most people found enough of those -- then here's one for ya. The death blow to the non-traditional rivalry that is the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks.

Playoff familiarity has bred a lot of contempt between these two teams. So much that I don't think it's exaggeration for one team to call the other their biggest rival in the sport right now. Sure, the Blackhawks have the Red Wings and the Canucks have, well, all of Canada, but no relationship seems to have the vitriol that this one is harboring at the moment.

Despite the fact that the two teams haven't played each other since Nov. 16 and won't play again until Jan. 31, they are still chirping away.

Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland is the man responsible for getting this fire burning once again when he joined WGN radio with Chicago goalie Corey Crawford on Tuesday night. He then proceeded to become the first person in the history of ever to refer to twins Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin as the "Sedin Sisters." OK, he was actually the second person on the show to say it, parroting the remarks of the show's host Dave Kaplan (full audio here).

Bolland was then asked if he would still call the Sedins sisters if they ever became Blackhawks. Bolland's response?

"Well, they'll never become 'Hawks," Bolland said. "I don't think we'd let them on our team. That'd probably be one thing. We'd be sure not to let them on our team. And, yeah, they probably still would be sisters. I think they might sleep in, like, bunk beds. The older one has the bottom one, the younger one's got the top."

But he didn't end his verbal assault on Vancouver there. No, he continued, this time branching out to the entire city. From the Vancouver Sun:

Bolland also talked about Canucks fans. Kaplan asked Bolland what Blackhawks players do in their spare time when on the road. Bolland mentioned that he tries not to venture too far from his hotel room when he has to play the Canucks at Rogers Arena.

"There's a lot of weirdos there," said Bolland of Vancouver. "You don't want to be out there too long."

A young fan asked Bolland, "Do you hate everyone on the Canucks, or just a lot of them?"

"I hate of all of them," said the Blackhawks forward.

Of course, it wouldn't be a full story without the Canucks retort. I'll give you one guess as to who was the player from Vancouver to issue a response, and you know it wasn't one of the Sedins.

That's right, it was Kevin Bieksa, the very vocal defenseman who seems to be the team spokesman in situations like this. He was equally stinging of Bolland.

"If it wasn't for the twins, I don't think anyone would hear about Dave Bolland," Bieksa said on Wednesday. "If he doesn't want them on his team, he's crazy. But it's probably b/c he'd be out of a roster spot."

Heck, even the coach is getting in on the action. You know it's getting interesting when that happens.

“When you have comments like Bolland, obviously an individual who’s IQ is the size of a bird seed and a face only a mother can look at," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said.

Now that is an original put down. Much better than the tried and clearly not true sisters line.

But don't think for one second that Bolland didn't know what he was doing. He knew full well what the ramifications of what he was saying would be. He didn't care.

He also seemed to be pandering to the crowd. It was a bit reminiscent of a wrestler being purposely outrageous to give the fans what they want. To draw a parallel to competitive sports, it was more like a booster pep rally for a college football or basketball team. If he was trying to bait the Canucks, it worked.

Figures that just when this rivalry is getting really good, they are going to only have two guaranteed meetings starting next season. Of course, if they meet in the semifinals or even Stanley Cup Final, depending how the playoffs will work, there will be that much more juice on the line.

BTW, I am sure none of you listened to the interview from Dave Bolland.  He specifically was asked by the WGN radio host about the Sedin Sisters---the host called them that first, not Bolland---although he did call them that later in that interview.

And what's the big deal anyway?  Everyone around the league and on this forum call Daniel and Henrik the Sedin Sisters.  They should take it as a compliment.

Blah, blah, blah.  It's all talk.  Who cares?  All I know is I've never seen so many slap passes by teams other than the Canucks.  When do the Hail Mary passes start by other teams?  You know?  When Henrik sees Daniel skating full speed up the opposite wing and smacks a slapper into the offensive zone from deep in the defensive zone creating a rebound off the boards for Daniel to work from?  They're the most creative tandem in the league.  That's they're job.

If only guys would QUIT FLOPPING FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!  It's irritating seeing a perfectly clean check as in the Columbus game the other night and Ballard, or whoever the hell it was, goes flopping to the ice to draw a call.  Thank goodness the refs didn't call it.  That crap is part of the reason I quit watching basketball.  Too many actors, not enough players.

As for the, Corky from Life Goes On, retards that continue to say "Duuuhhhh, 4 Cups to None!"  How many of those Cups came when there were only 6 teams in the league?  Ohhh...3 of them you say.  That's a nifty 16%+ possibility of winning the Cup for 40 years right from the season's opening puck drop.  So from the 1967 expansion to present how many Cups have the Blac Khawks hoisted???  I'll give you Ditka-town fans time to do the math. ...................................

...................................

...................................

................  Ahhh!  I don't have all day.  That's one!  One Cup?!?  In 50 years all they could swing was one Cup?  What happened?  From '27 to '67 they had 3.  What happened to getting your names etched every 13 years on average?  I guess the level of competition was a little too much for the Blac Khawks.  Seeing as though the Canucks have 9 more years in the league until they have 50 years in; I'll take my chances with the Canucks.

BTW...  The Kane goal from last night in the shootout wasn't all that.  ESPN said it was a ridiculous goal.  It was alright but ridiculous never came to mind when seeing it.

Go Canucks Go!

I think Bolland speaks the truth though. The Schmucks have the first female coach in Elaine Vignault......a hair puller and biter which signifies girly play, cryin Ryan and the Sedin sisters. Come on the Brady Bunch has nothing on these bunch of crazy Gals!!!!

Probably because the Hawks beat them 2 years in a row in the playoffs and lost to them as an 8 seed in game 7 last year.

'Hawks' Bolland rips Sedin 'sisters,' Vancouver

ummmmmmm I'm not a Canucks fan, but didn't they go to the Cup Fianls last year???  Game 7 to be exact?  How exactly do they "only win in the regular season" and lose in the playoffs against tougher teams?  Seems to me, the West didn't have a tough enough team last year then, did they?  Get off the home-room computer....it's time for 1st period earth science, isn't it?

How is this even news? I'm sure we'll be reading tomorrow how Bolland thinks his mother-in-law's fruitcake stinks and how his gym teacher in highschool was mean to him.
If less talented players and clueless fans can't criticize the talent of the better players they resort to namecalling like this. How many times have we hear "Cindy Crosby", as if it were still funny? The only Art Ross winner in the last decade who seems to have escaped this type of namecalling is Ovechkin, but he certainly has dropped off in production. It may be that his style of play has lead to a drop in his productivity, in which case the Sedins are perfectly justified in not going into the corners or staking out turf in the crease on a regular basis.
We'll see if the Sedins can ever deliver a Cup to Vancouver. But you know, OV hasn't been in any parades either.

Danimal, Alex Burrows is the hair puller/biter ( classy guy). Bieksa is the supposed tough guy who fights Victor Stalberg a non-fighter. The Canucks are a team that can win in the regular season, but when it comes to facing tough playoff opponents this team gets outclassed. when the tough get going the Canucks pull hair and bite. Sounds like sisters to me!
