It appears that the Kyle Turris saga in Phoenix has finally reached its conclusion. Turris missed the first part of the season as he remained unsigned as a restricted agent, and even asked for a trade, while he and the team were unable to come to terms on a contract. Through it all, general manager Don Maloney insisted that he would not trade his young forward, and eventually the two sides agreed to a two-year pact worth $1.4 million per season.

After appearing in six games this season without recording a point for the Coyotes, the 22-year-old Turris has been traded to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defenseman David Rundblad and a second-round draft pick, according to multiple reports, including TSN's Bob McKenzie.

Trade rumors had been swirling around the former first-round pick all year, and the chatter started to pick up on Friday.

Turris is definitely a talented player that still has plenty of upside, and perhaps a fresh start on a new team is what he needs. But it appears Ottawa paid a pretty steep price to take that chance. After being selected third overall during the 2007 draft he's recorded just 46 points (19 goals, 27 assists) in 137 games.

In return, the Coyotes get the 21-year-old Rundblad who had been a regular in the Ottawa lineup this season, averaging over 15 minutes of ice-time per game and adding a goal to go with three assists.

“We are very excited to have David join our organization,” said Maloney in a team statement. “He is a young, highly skilled defenseman with superior offensive sense. We look forward to David joining us in the desert and becoming an important player for us in the future..”

Great deal for the Yotes..
Rundblad a former 1st round pick, rookie defensemen, with alot of upside.. Plus a 2nd round pick.
And they get rid of an underperforming player who will not get regular playing time on their team.

"Quebec City or Kansas City will enjoy the young defensemen" -  nice !  lol

If that's all it took to get Turris away from the Coyotes, what took so long for them to find a trade partner? Rundblad might become good but I don't see the same upside that Turris has. I think the Sens may have got the best of Phoenix in this trade. Big, offensively skilled centers are in higher demand than a defenceman that has years to go before reaching full potental.

I like Kyle Turris' potential but this is a great deal for the Coyotes.

Rundblad has huge upside.  Teamed with Yandle, Ekman-Larsson and Brandon Gormley (ETA 2012, watch him in 2012 World Junior tourney starting Boxing Day), he will part of a formidable back end.

Either the fans of Quebec City or Kansas City will enjoy these four young D for many years (or until they cannot afford two of them).
