Just after the New Year, we relayed to you the story out of Philadelphia where a Rangers fan was badly beaten by some Flyers fans outside of Geno's Steaks following New York's 3-2 win in the Winter Classic.

The victim is 30-year-old Neal Auricchio, a police officer in New Jersey and former purple heart honoree from his service in Iraq as a marine. He is also a life-long Rangers fan who was on leave from his duty with the police after his wife gave birth the week before Christmas.

While the police investigation to find the men responsible for beating Auricchio and damaging his eye socket to the point of requiring surgery, the Rangers have set into motion a day for Auricchio to come to Madison Square Garden for a game on them. He'll be on hand Feb. 27 when the Rangers host the New Jersey Devils

Rangers coach John Tortorella was the one who called to give Auricchio the news.

“It absolutely lifted his spirits,” his wife Maria Auricchio told the New York Post. “He’s, and we’re all, such big Rangers fans. It was great [to get Tortorella’s call].”

I tell ya, between this and his relationship with Liam Trainer, Tortorella is going to win over some more fans.

I guess you forgot about the Yankees fan who MURDERED the Red Sox Fan in several years ago. I dont care that he wasnt from NY, I'll classify him with the rest like you just did.  So I guess that makes every NY sports a scum bag then?

Can you say Hypocrite!

it's too bad fans in so many cities take sports to such a level hey think it's ok to beat the crap out of fans of a rival. Being a Boston fan, I know some Boston idiots make the fans in general look bad. It sucks there are such a huge handful of douchbags in every major sports market. It's really quite sad and pathetic that some fans take sports so seriously they feel the need to beat someone up badly. Karma comes around people

Now would it make a difference that Me and my buddy were drunk, talking crap outside Geno's and Some guy in a # 28 Flyer Jersey stepped up to confront me? I shoved him 1st, as we were both screaming obsenitites at each other, he then swung at me back. Just then My Buddy in the Callahan Jersey sucker punches The Guy In the #28 Flyer Jersey from the blind side that enraged #28's friends and escalated the whole situation. Then the guy turns and clocks my buddy in The Callahan Jesey, pretty much immobilizing him at that point, leaving me to take on the three Flyer guys we pissed off. All hell broke loose and we got rolled up pretty bad. I guess we should not of had those last few beers so we could of avoided the false bravado that got us into this brawl. I guess it is not a good idea to get drunk at run off at the mouth, taunting other drunk fans in Philadelphia. What a dirt bag city if this was in NY, you would of never found those Flyer fans again. Nothing like this ever happens in NY City.

Filth-adelphia fans no matter what sport suck. I was born in NYC and now live in pa, 2 hrs from filth-daelphia and I have to say they are the worst fan in all sports. Go to see a game of any sport in New York City and you don't get assualted, but in Filth-adelphia that ares scum. I had people try to start **** when the Giants beat the eAGLES. Wanted to break my legs because I cheered against them. Burn Filth-adelphia to the grround and re build it.

rpmacmurphy, I agree with you completely. Yes, the Rangers and Flyers are a rivalry with years and years of knock down hockey, but it is just a game. Seriously, hockey is a great sport without trying to kill other fans. This is a great season for both of these teams.
