Sidney Crosby was back in Pittsburgh on Monday and he hit the ice for a 45-minute skating session, along with injured teammates Jordan Staal and Simon Despres, before the Penguins team practice at the Consol Energy Center.

He had been in California visiting Dr. Robert Bray, a neurological spine specialist, for a neck injury that was reported to be to his C1 and C2 vertebrae. The Penguins issued a statement on Saturday evening that the injury had already healed and that the findings will be evaluated by independent specialists over the next couple of days.

It's been yet another bizarre chapter in what has surely been a frustrating year for the Penguins and their captain, while it also seemed to provide more questions than answers.

As for his appearance on Monday, well, this is what some of it looked like, and it seems that his hands still work quite well.

The Penguins return to action this week with back-to-back games against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday (home) and Wednesday (away).

Crosby has appeared in just eight games this season and he has been out of the lineup since December 5.

Yo cheapshotvinny...

I've seen plenty of hockey games this season, it really isn't hard to do, even here in the iceless south. Not just Florida teams either...

Of course, I'm not a twink cheapshot artist like yourself...

I hate it for Sid. I saw C1-C2 vertebrae (for those of you anatomically challenged, think "paralyzed below the neck" for C2, "deader than cheapshotvinny's senses"  for C1.

While there have been some pretty spectacular advances in neurology in the last decade, nerves still don't really regenerate in the sense that we all take the term "regeneration".

Good as you are, no game is worth that,  Sid. Be smart, listen to your own docs. Don't let the business that profits from you decide whether you're healthy or not.

if the pens can get these guys back healthy(that is a big IF) they maybe the favorite to win the stanley cup. the way malkin is playing even the thought of adding the world's best player in crosby and staal as a third line center is scary.

This is sad to see unfolding- another great player, his career cut short, struggling to hold onto his dream.

So Sidney Crosby will practice some more, maybe even play in a handful of games.  Who could blame him for trying?  The Penguins are playing well and it's likely the team should make the playoffs.  Then, one day in April, Crosby will be tying his shoelaces, skating towards the goal, or maybe finishing his lentil soup and Wham!- headaches, dizziness, sleepiness, impaired cognition- it will all return with a vengeance.  Let's hope he & the team aren't foolish enough to push him so far he ends up with Parkinson's and/or dead...

Such insane talent. Shame hitting can't be banned for the superstars. Something Super Mario Lemuieux proposed. A Do Don't Touch Sign.

CheapShotVinny.  You are another coward who doesn't want anyone to know who you cheer for.  You just want to come on here and trash other people.  I honestly feel sorry for people like you who have so little in your real life that you need to come on here and trash people that you don't even know.  You must have an absolutely pathetic real life.  Your real life will never get better as long as you are hanging out on web sites.  Do something pro active to improve your real life.

king1.  I love people like you who come on here just to trash Pittsburgh fans, yet you don't even declare who you are a fan of in your profile.  You aren't proud enough of your teams to let everyone know who you cheer for.  You are clearly jealous of the success that the Pittsburgh sports fans have had for you to trash us for doing nothing.  You are sad.

From an ignorant hockey fan-Sid was the only reason I watched hockey( limited to just national penguin games). Sid was the only reason I bought hockey video games. I love his whole story and his young age, coming out and playing so terrificly. There is no hype with Crosby. He single handedly got people like me to watch hockey. I now have so much appreciation for the skill and toughness of these cats that play pro hockey. The NHL desperatly needs him back and cleared for live play. I really hope Sid does not turn into the Terrel Davis of the NHL. My prayers go out to him, for health and longevity.
