Scott Hartnell had a pretty solid game for the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night, recording a Gordie Howe hat trick in a 4-3 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In a display of what can only be referred to as "old time hockey," Hartnell managed to earn two-thirds of his Gordie Howe Trick (the goal and the fight) on the same play, within seconds of each other.
Impressive, and very unusual.
After firing a bouncing puck past James Reimer from just inside the faceoff circle to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead late in the first period, Hartnell almost immediately stopped his post-goal celebration, turned around, gave Toronto's Dion Phaneuf a slash across the leg, and then started to fight the Maple Leafs defenseman.
