Tim Thomas refuses to talk Facebook posts

By Brian Stubits

Before Tim Thomas elected to skip the Bruins' visit to the White House last month to be honored by President Obama, nobody cared to discuss Thomas' politics and Facebook postings. They were completely off the radar, had nothing to do with hockey.

But then the infamous Obama shun happened and an awareness of Thomas' politics became higher. He then took to his Facebook page to explain his reasoning, bringing his page to a lot of people's minds and certainly garnering a ton of "likes."

So now normally pretty innocuous things like Thomas posting he "Stand[s] with the Catholics in the fight for Religious Freedom" (presumably in response to the health insurance/church issue) become news items. Thomas gets asked about them.

Well he won't anymore. If he does, then the questions are done. That's the threat he laid down (and executed) at a Thursday media scrum where he steadfastly refused to answer questions pertaining to his Facebook posts.

I'll just say that I agree with Thomas to a point here. I agree with his assertion that becoming an athlete doesn't mean you aren't entitled to a personal life and the ability to espouse your beliefs.

On the other hand, by his own actions and with the help of the media's coverage of it, his platform has grown.

I did love him walking away when somebody asked if he regretted writing it with a simple "I'm out! Peace!"

Football07:  Just had to respond to your comment: "Timmy Thomas needs to focus on stopping pucks and not posting on facebook. What is he a 17 year old girl?"    Well let's see; the Bruins are 33-17 and first in the Northeast Division.  Thomas is 22-10 and Tuukka Rusk is 11-7.  Thomas has a 2.16 GAA and .932 SV%....   Yea I guess he needs to focus on stopping pucks... What???

And you say you didnt like either Bush's but you would have went if invited.... Since you and I are never getting invited anytime soon how can you possibly answer that hypothetical question.....  Never say never young fella!

Easy big brother. My point is that these athletes need to get a grip. Nobody gives a crap about Thomas, ( or any athletes), views. All they care about is that he stops pucks. I don't feel bad for these cry babies because the media isn't fair to them or whatever else they cry about. He started this BS with his political spewing over why he didn't want to go to the White House. He has every right to his opinion, but don't cry when people or the media attack you over it. Do you have any idea where Nick Lidstrom stands on abortion, or how Stamkos feels about Health care? Do you care? Probably not, but if one of them came out with a statement about it they open themselves up to everyone's opinion. The media is doing their job, wether we agree with their methods or not, because you or I can't sit down with the celebrities to interview them. I was always a big fan of the group Rage Against the Machine but I didn't want to go to a concert and hear them talk about their political views, just sing your songs. Same thing with athletes.

And one final point..... Professional sport salaries don't upset me as much as politicians salaries do in DC.  A Congressman does one tour (2 years) and has a pro-rated pension and insurance for life!  thats right...    It took me 28 years in the Marine Corps and 7 years civil service to get my isurance plan and medical.   So I have NO tremendous sympathy for millionaire athletes who have to answer questions, I just have a problem with the media asking the same question, over and over and over and over again until they get the answer they want or spin the media so guys like you and others on this blog site can get all over Thomas (not really even understanding why you're doing it ).  And by the way, I am a Flyers fan, so I aint no chowda head homer!.....

Read my point Topshelf1 !  He did answer the question, but they NEVER EVER STOP ASKING THE SAME QUESTION OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN !!!  and besides, NO INDUSTRY HAS A BETTER VENUE TO SPEW TRASH AND GET A POINT ACCROSS THAN THE MEDIA..... They are obviously controlling what you think and do.....

I just read a couple other blogs like "He should have gone to the White House"  WHY?? He didnt freakin want to!!!  and somebody else saying that "the media has a right to ask the questions"  YOU are right, they do have a right to ask questions... But the problem is after they get the answer from the person, athlete or whomever...they ask the same freakin question again and again and again and again until they get the answer they want!! Dosent anybody out there see that??   You all should cause it happens to every athlete NO matter what team you follow!!!!  Get smart and snap out of it... all of you before it's too late !!!
