It looks like those fans at Madison Square Garden last weeks changint "We don't want you!" to Rick Nash are going to get their wish. At least for now, they aren't.

Multiple outlets reported on Sunday that the Rangers, long seen as the favorite to swing a deal for Nash if he were dealt before the trade deadline on Monday afternoon, are out of the race. They just weren't willing to bend to the Blue Jackets' insistent asking price.

Here's more from Katie Strang of ESPN New York.

Barring a drastic change, a deal to bring the prized winger to New York does looks unlikely, a source told ESPNNewYork.com

The Rangers were believed to be the front-runners for the former No. 1 pick whose availability has dominated trade talks in the days leading up to the deadline, but New York does not appear to be willing to concede to Columbus' demands.

Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson's asking price for the franchise player is reportedly significant; according to multiple reports he is asking for a roster player, top prospect and a first-round pick, if not more.

All along the rumors had it that the Jackets wanted either Michael Del Zotto, Ryan McDonagh or Derek Stepan and the Rangers weren't going to surrender any of those players. It was a stalemate and neither was willing to cave.

The asking price for Nash has always been high in this saga. Not that you can blame Columbus GM Scott Howson for staying so demanding in it all, mind you. But to make it a bit laughable, Darren Dreger of TSN says that that high price has actually gone up.

This Nash saga has gone back and forth a lot. When his agent spoke up for the first time about the rumors, it sounded like the urgency was being put on the Jackets to get a deal done sooner rather than later. Then a contender falls by the wayside and the cost reportedly goes up.

It would appear to leave the Maple Leafs and possibly the San Jose Sharks in the conversation. There is also the possibility of dark horses in the Predators and maybe even the Flyers. But really it doesn't seem like the Jackets are going to find a deal that's amenable to them and Nash to where he'll be dealt on Monday.

Then again, who knows? We'll just have to wait and see by 3 ET on Monday.

Amazing; NYR don't want to give up Mcdonaugh or the others for RNash but Gauthier 'the fool' gave Mcdonaugh for Gomez and his 7M$.

Don't rub it in....

I'd trade either Dubinsky or Stepan for him.  Nash won't fit into the system the way he plays now.  Gaborik and Richards play defense and even back-check.  I think that unless he changes his play, it won't happen now or while Torts is behind the bench.  If it gave us a better chance to win the Cup this year i'd trade for him.  We haven't won in 18 years and counting....get it done....

Whether this trade works out or not, whether the NYR win the cup or not, I could not be more proud as a Rangers fan. Rick Nash is a tremendous talent who will add to any team, however, I agree that the asking price was more than what the Rangers can pay. They are young, have a great team chemistry and to give up all of those players and part of the future for Rick Nash was too much. For as much as I ahve criticized Glenn Sather in the past, this has been great.

The rangers will sink or swim on the back on Lundqvist and their great team chemistry and work ethic.  Bringing a big star into that mix is playing with fire IMO.  To go deep, a couple of guys named  Dubie and Richards will have to step up their production to the expected level.  If they do, this could a magical year.  If not, they will have trouble with the deeper teams.  But the way # 30 is playing, he could run the table with the Vezina, Hart, Con Smythe and Lord Stanley's Cup all in th same year.  Go Rangers!

If Slats could pulll off the deal for a reasonable return it would be fine. Columbus is asking for way too much and won't do anything with it anyway! They are a franchise that has comsistently unperformed with assests they already have. What's going to change?

NYR4EVA,... I dont see LA parting with their Captain this yr. especially after aquiring Carter from CBJ... If anything it looks like LA is going to make a playoff run and Brown is heating up... I honestly dont know if the Rangers will make any moves.. I was thinking possibly Selannie at a minimual price, due to his age and last yr of his contract, but i dont think that will happen. Expect a deal, but probably for a lesser scorer than Nash... Great screen name btw.

As you can read in my blog, I sincerly believe that Burke will cave and meet Columbus' asking price. Might as well sign over the deeds of the entire franchise while he's at it.

That's awesome news!!! Now let's see if we could pry Brown from L.A. for a reasonable price. If not, let's stay the course with what we have and in the off season pick up Parise and either Weber or Suter! Let's go Rangers!!!
