Boise State, San Diego State, Houston, SMU and UCF will join the Big East Conference in 2013, sources told CBSSports.com.

The announcement will be made Wednesday. The league will hold a 5 p.m. ET teleconference to formally discuss the new members. Realignment map: The new Big East

Boise State and San Diego State will join the Big East as football-only members, while Houston, SMU and UCF will join as all-sport members. Boise State is expected to put its non-football sports in the WAC, while San Diego State would place its non-football sports in the Big West, sources told CBSSports.com.

With the addition of those five schools -- minus the departures of West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Syracuse -- the Big East will have 10 football members.

With those five schools on board, Navy is expected to join as a football-only member -- possibly as soon as next week -- to boost the football membership to 11 schools.

The Big East hopes to add Air Force as its 12th football school -- as a football-only member -- but the Falcons still remain undecided.

If the Big East cannot get Air Force, Temple would be a likely candidate to become the Big East's 12th member.

Even with the new schools, sources also told CBSSports.com that the Big East still plans to make West Virginia, Syracuse and Pittsburgh honor the league's 27-month exit requirement and stay in the league until June 30, 2014. Big East commissioner John Marinatto has said previously the league could have more than 12 football members and 16 basketball members during the 2013 season.

However, West Virginia AD Oliver Luck told CBSSports.com two weeks ago the Mountaineers are planning to join the Big 12 next season.

"We're planning on all sports spending the 2012-13 academic year in the Big 12," Luck said. "The Big 12 folks haven't given us a [deadline] date. We're 100 percent focused on competing in the Big 12 and with this season closing, have time to prepare for next year.

"Our coaches are starting to think about Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas and all the other schools we'll be facing in the Big 12 next year."

Both West Virginia and the Big East have filed lawsuits. West Virginia claims it should not have to honor the 27-month commitment, while the Big East contends West Virginia may not leave before 2014.

Syracuse and Pittsburgh have not filed a lawsuit to join the ACC early, but are monitoring the West Virginia situation. If WVU leaves before 2014, Syracuse and Pittsburgh would do the same, sources said.

I agree, the Big East should have gone after schools in the big 12!   I am a UCF fan and i don't like this at all.  I don't think C-USA is all that great, but at least we have great rivalrys.  how can we build that with teams 3 time zones away?

Money is driving this bus right off the cliff.  all this talk about AQ and how much money "we" get is sad.

Guess we will see.

Agreed. The SEC and ACC beats up teams like Boise State on their way to the fight. Get a real turf too. What makes you so special?

Ditto.  the money is driving this bus, not the fan base or common sense.

I am currious which teams get stuck in the "western" division.  Most likely my school, UCF will.  USF really doesn't want to play us anyway, so they will lobby for us to be in the west and they will stay in the "east."

this whole deal sucks, in my opinion.    &nb

Boise State, 4 others to join Big East in 2013

I have read a lot of the comments posted by differnt people, and I think you are spot on.  I am a UCF Knight and I am not happy about us joining the Big East.  I too was wondering what would happen if the BCS "revokes" the BCS automatic bid.  I don't think our confrence is all that great in the football ranks.  I gueww we all have to wait and see.

First thing is we need to start beating teams from the other conferences with a lot of regularity.  Once we can do that, then maybe we will be a real conference.

However, the baskttball is going to be awesome!

Is there no mention of the fact that there might not even be a BCS or a different form of the BCS in 2014. Houston, Central Florida and Southern Methodist will all weaken Big East Basketball. Why not just add Temple and stay at 14 basketball teams, Big East? Houston is no Texas, UCF is not USF, SMU is no TCU.

I think the BCS should give the Mountain West an Automatic bid, and take it from the Big East, just to make a point.  Utah, BYU, TCU, Boise, SDSU...clearly the conference CREATES winners!  They should be rewarded for that.

BS, there should be NO bids taken from anyone,  the other five div 1A leagues should be given an auto bid, and the money divided equally.  The B11 gives OSU the EXACT money as they give Minn,  the SEC gives LSU the EXACT money as they give Vandy.  IF the conferences can EACH do this, then why can't college ball as a whole?  When the season starts, 120 teams SHOULD have a chance to win the title, based on what they do on the field, NOT what their name is, NOT what league they play in, NOT what was done by the team 50 years ago.

Miked 627..............You know about as much about the BCS as a "cat on a hot tin roof".  You and Boise State can take your uguly BLUE TURF field and pedal your wares where the sun doesn't shine.  That's all I've heard out of Chris Peterson over the past couple years, is whine because he got left out of a BCS Game.  It's about time Boise State makes a move to a BCS league, instead of whinning about Virginia Tech.  VT doesn't have to make any apologies to no one. In fact, any other BCS school offered an invitation to the Sugar Bowl would have taken it also.  So lay off VT and get a life. Your pathetic sour grapes attitude will get you and Boise State nowhere.
