Derek Willis is Kentucky's first 2013 commit

By Jeff Borzello

Derek Willis’ recruitment has had several twists and turns over the past six months, and he wasn’t expected to make a new decision just yet. Last week, though, the former Purdue commit said he was ready to make an announcement.

During a press conference at Bullitt East High School (Ky.), Willis made his pledge to Kentucky.

“Kentucky was just the best fit for me and that’s why I chose them,” he said.

Willis chose the Wildcats over Purdue, Indiana and Louisville. It was reported that he narrowed his list to two schools – Purdue was the other – recently, and made up his mind a week ago.

Willis is a top-50 recruit in the class of 2013. The 6-foot-9 forward is extremely skilled and he has good inside-outside ability. He has not reached his full potential just yet, but is one of the more versatile offensive players in the class when he brings it consistently.

He is Kentucky’s first commitment in the class of 2013.

wow who do do u root for?  I'm sure glad it isn't Kentucky!  Here we win with class and dignity, stand back and watch how we do it in Kentucky and you might learn a thing or two!  Lmao  All I can say is go Cats and this team showed the nation how to win and do it with class! RK i hope u learn from us how to act responsibly and show a little class.  Maybe ur team will do better next year!  Also i was just wondering, why wasn't coach Cal implicated in any of the other violations?  Was it that he himself did nothing wrong? Well as to your last question, he has now won one championship.  If he stays at UK there will be more!  LMAO!!!

Mwilson1511 only losers use any other pic besides their real pic so using a UK logo over your real pic means you have no right to insult anyone. Must be nice going after people being anonymous. I bet you wouldn't say crap to anyone face to face. No one on here who hides what they look like in real life would say crap to another person's face. So be good boy and go back to drowing your sorrows next to your cousin whom you happened to marry since no other girl wanted you.

CALIPARI IS A GREAT RECRUITER ? HE WAS AT UMASS AND MEMPHIS AS WELL. HE LEFT BOTH OF THEM IN TROUBLE FOR VIOLATIONS. THE MAN IS A CHEATING FOOL AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONDONED AT KENTUCKY. THESE KIDS NEED A GREAT NBA CONTRACT JUST TO BREAK EVEN. THEY'RE NOT EXACTLY FLOCKING TO UK BECAUSE OF ALL THE NAT'L CHAMPIONSHIPS HE'S WON.

Fans can be so ignorant, sterotyping an entire fan base, I personally don't drink Natural Ice or have a chin beard but am a big UofL fan. Its ok to cheer against whatever team you want but I seriously hope fans don't hate other teams because of some ill conceived notion of a fan base, there are good and bad in every fan base. But whatever makes you feel good about being ignorant and saying stupid things, I just hope for all our sakes people are just trying to start junk and are not that stupid, hate to think what someone that stupid could do.

Who cares as long as he stayed in state... its better to keep Kentucky kids here in the bluegrass whether is UL, UK, WKU, Murray... UK folks just need to quit being so NASTY, I know its hard for you to do... but its all about the State of Kentucky..

Calipari is just the best recruiter in college basketball right now, period. I work w/ a lot of Purdue fans (& I like them as well) so we've been watching Willis recruitment & we all thought he was UK bound if Calipari wanted him. This is the type of kid Calipari needs to get to win a title, a 3 or 4 year kid that will develop and contribute. UK has had this type of player (Miller, Harrelson, Liggins) Calipari just didn't recruit them but he knows what he's doing and what he needs and knows its tough to win it all with a team of only 1 & done players.

I say easy on the Pitino is done thing though, he's not getting fired, even though a lot of us UofL fans wouldn't be upset to see him go. Kids from Louisville have gone to UK in the past (there are  a lot of UK grads & followers in Louisville) so not getting Willis doesn't mean a lot, he was more a Purdue recruit than anything.
