Rich Rodriguez will be the next head football coach at Arizona, athletic director Greg Byrne has announced on his Twitter account.

He's expected to bring several of his assistants from Michigan and West Virginia with him to Tucson.

The 48-year-old Rodriguez, who was fired after three seasons at Michigan, had spent the past season working as a college football analyst for CBS. At Michigan, he went 15-22. Before his turbulent stint in Ann Arbor, he coached his alma mater West Virginia to a 60-26 record in seven seasons. His final three seasons, he led the Mountaineers to top 12 finishes and two BCS bowl games.

Rodriguez will take over an Arizona team that is 3-8. The school fired Mike Stoops at midseason.

so richyrod heads to the desert...much better weather than WVa or Michigan. He should enjoy his tenure there...

be careful not to enjoy it TOO much.  remember how he went to that frat party at WVU, and people took pics of him doing keg stands with co-eds.   cool if you ask me.  no prob.   just keep it check Rich, b/c the co eds at Arizona are smokin.

..a true skunk..he bailed on his Alma Mater just when they were goin' good...stable, always a threat to win even against the toughest competition...and he leaves them like he didn't even know them...

...his talents were on full display at Michigan...settle in for a year, get his program running the next...year three...fired, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Arizona wants what he's got...kind of a WVa type school in my mind...program wise. He may be good for them...for awhile, then the itchy feet and big head are likely to return, and then betrayals, more of what's good for richy is good for richy...

who gotta just get tired of certain people's acts after awhile...he's up there on my list of DO NOT HIREs

That offense wasn't built for ANY offense. They had one single returning starter on the offense and that was Boren. Obviously, as good as he was, was too fat and lazy to be told to run to the line of scrimmage.

Ummm Manningham Arrington were returning starters and Matthews... Mallett was already said by the coaches and current players in Henne and Hart as possibly going down as the BEST QB Michigan has ever had. Ortmann was there Moosman was there on the O line. Minor and Brown were there... they got plenty of reps between Hart being injured Massey and Carson Butler at TE. That team could have easily won 7 games if not 8 that year if they'd not been experimenting with the "spread read option" or whatever form of it he wanted to try.

Defensivley, they lost 4 of their top 7 tacklers before RR arrived and 3 of the top 6 tacklers after RR's first year. At one point, RR had 8 true or redshirt Frosh starting on defense. Its easy to compare UM with RR to this year but you have to think about who is on the team.

Wow... They had a LOT of talent on defense available to play the normal scheme instead of that 3-3-5 that NEVER worked in the Big Ten. Graham and Jamison were there. Harrison and Brown were there at saftey. Terrance Taylor at DT they were limited at LB but Mouton and Ezeh were not bad at all there. CB you had Trent, Warren and Woolfolk. Really that looks like a 3-9 team to you??? Goodness take off the blinders. It wasn't the players or talent it was RR his OC and his DC.

Hoke has it made this year. How many true Frosh does he have starting? The players he has starting now would be starters if RR was still there. Those same players are now a year older and have a year of experience under their belt.

I don't know what you've been looking into but there are more than 3 Frosh's starting for UM. That's been covered... but If RR was still there they'd still be ignoring the defense and trying to outscore Illinois 67-65 and getting SHREDDED on defense by the run and in the air. Denard would probably be injured and no one would know how to block. Still.

Hoke and his staff have done wonders with this team and they are just starting to hit their stride. Next year playing Bama first will show a LOT of people just HOW good Michigan really is and that SEC argument of beating anyone anywhere will go down the drain as it USUALLY does when it comes to UM. Go Blue!

Definately leave that Defensive Coach UNEMPLOYED.  Rich Rod can put together an exciting offense.  I wish him all the luck, but am glad we have Brady Hoke and a BIG TEN offense again.

To Arizona fans from a Michigan fan:
RichRod might turn out to be very good for you.
Just pray that he doesn't show up with Greg Robinson as his Defensive Coordinator.
In that case, run for your lives.
You will likely have a Top 10  offense within 2 years.

He CAN put up poiints with anybody,

Any team with half a pulse could stop that MAC team he brought in. 14 points with HIS recruits against those bribing rejects down south isn't putting up points with anyone. Crap they couldn't even put up points with Big 10 recruits left over by Carr against fricken Toledo. His offense is a joke, it'll never succeed outside of the Big East or non BCS conferences. By succeeding I mean playing the teams every year. Like or not, when you play an offense every year, you have a greater advantage than playing once in a bowl game.

he just wasnt given enough time to get his proper personnel in place through recruiting,

They had two years in his system. Against teams that had even half a pulse could stop that ridiculous offense. I don't even have to mention the teams that had solid or great defenses.

look at HIS recruits and what they are doing now, seem to doing pretty well dont they?

Only because of the coaching staff. Pick Rob is still throwing picks, but they are competitive with everyone, which Idiot Rod couldn't do. Barring the pick six against little bro, Michigan is down one score not two. They came back against ND and NW had this been last year, both sides of the ball would have quit in these games and guaranteed Iowa and little bro. Idiot Rod couldn't do anything like this if he dreamed about it. Its the coaches that are in control now, not the idiot who brought the kids to Michigan that have made the turn around. With Idiot Rod, Michigan is easily sitting at 4-7 and not 9-2. The only reason the Idiot Rod recruits are succeeding is because of the coaches now.

The other thing is Pick Rob isn't running 20-30 times a game. That small frame of his will never hold up to getting hit by 300+ players as proven last year. With Robinson staying healthy, teams have to worry about Fitzy running it, Robinson running, or Robinson attempting to throw it. Last year they had to stack the box and stop him from trying to run despite being half dead. The change in scheme by the coaches is hat is making his recruits look good, because they would never look good with Idiot Rod.

Zona, you guys had better savor this win over ASU, because your rivalry with them just became insignificant with the hire.
