Rich Rodriguez will be the next head football coach at Arizona, athletic director Greg Byrne has announced on his Twitter account.

He's expected to bring several of his assistants from Michigan and West Virginia with him to Tucson.

The 48-year-old Rodriguez, who was fired after three seasons at Michigan, had spent the past season working as a college football analyst for CBS. At Michigan, he went 15-22. Before his turbulent stint in Ann Arbor, he coached his alma mater West Virginia to a 60-26 record in seven seasons. His final three seasons, he led the Mountaineers to top 12 finishes and two BCS bowl games.

Rodriguez will take over an Arizona team that is 3-8. The school fired Mike Stoops at midseason.

Arizona hires Rich Rodriguez as coach

@ albee macaw Fantastic analogy!

you must not know football. i think this a a great hire.  he will do wonders for your program.  no pressure and he will be given 3 years to build it up ala WVU.  he will go 3-9 or 4-8 his first year, 7-5 or 84 his second year and then he'll be ok by the 3rd year.  He was never given a chance at Michigan...great hire for you guys!

and neither do you.    RR's problems were many at Michigan.  With most being self-inlficted.   He

may not have had a unified "organization" when he walked in, but he did absolutely nothing to fix, mend or unite the fracture.

Is there anyone that follows/involved with CFB that does not know how big the Michigan - OSU game is?   Would you expect the coach (RR) to tell the fans they need to get a life in reference to that game?   Well he did.

As for being a "Michigan Man", it does not rely soley on attending/coaching at Michigan.  It is a set of characteristics men at Michigan should exemplify.    A man that brings NCAA sanctions to Michigan, does not exemplify those characteristics.   &
amp;
nbsp; A man that passes the buck/blame/responsibility, does not exemplify those characteristics.   R

R did not exemplify the characteristics of a Michigan Man.

RR had the life rope - Winning cures all.   Well, he didn't even do that very well.    The honest Michigan fan can tell you his offense looked great against scrub competition.  When faced against a mediocre defense, you could see the flaw in his offense.    When faced against good defenses, the majority of those games were over before the 1st half was finished.    Lots of points and stats were put up in garbage time, making his offense look more prolific than it was.

Everyone wants to talk about how great he is, yet fail to see his/WVU's rise to prominence coincided with the departure of BC, VT and Miami to the ACC.

Outside the Big East, you will not find very many people that would compare the quality of teams in Big East and Big Ten to be comparable.

There were many reasons that led to his firing.    To say he is a great coach is not even close to being true.

Yes he proved what a great coach he was while atMichigan. Big difference when you are playing in that little girls division that UWV plays in and the competitive big boys division like the Big Ten. At least he will feel right at home w/ the billion Rodriguez’s that live inArizona.

I'm thrilled over this!!! I think Rich is as good for the PAC-12 as he was for Michigan and the BIG-10? The AD at Arizona should have known the fit isn't going to bode well for the football team there and found someone else? Oh well - i suppose he can't be any worse than tricky Rick at UCLA, Paul Wulff at WSU or Willingham (i puked a little in my mouth) at Washington a few years ago? I give him 3 years and he'll be gone........ He won't convert Arizona into a ground and pound team any more than he could do it with Michigan - - - seems more and more like his time at WVU was a fluke to me?..........

I think this is a good hire for the Wildcats...RR shouldn't be judged solely on his performance at UM, there were some odd administrative issues he was dealing with which didn't make things easy on him. He won't endure those same issues at Arizona. U of A should give RR the chance to proove himself once again. I also think his scheme will fit better in a southwest atmosphere.

U of A fans should keep an eye on who he is able to hire as D Coordinator. If he can bring Casteel over (who UM wasn't willing to give him the cash to lure over) then he already has a better chance of success.

It will take a while, he needs to find a qb for his system.

Yes, I think Rich Rod is the best Arizona can do. and its not a bad hire considering Arizona Football hasnt been very good.  Secondly, I live in AZ and if you have seen their facilities one would know that they are very lacking compared to all the other conference schools.  They need to spend money and lots of it.  They need new everything.  I think he can turn things around their for sure.
