Rich Rodriguez will be the next head football coach at Arizona, athletic director Greg Byrne has announced on his Twitter account.

He's expected to bring several of his assistants from Michigan and West Virginia with him to Tucson.

The 48-year-old Rodriguez, who was fired after three seasons at Michigan, had spent the past season working as a college football analyst for CBS. At Michigan, he went 15-22. Before his turbulent stint in Ann Arbor, he coached his alma mater West Virginia to a 60-26 record in seven seasons. His final three seasons, he led the Mountaineers to top 12 finishes and two BCS bowl games.

Rodriguez will take over an Arizona team that is 3-8. The school fired Mike Stoops at midseason.

Arizona hires Rich Rodriguez as coach

Hey kinnetic; which job would you take bro? Arizona in the PAC 12 for 1.6 mill or New Mexico in the Mountain West for 700 grand? You make the call! This is a great hire for U of A and gives some hope that the Wildcats can at least be on even grounds with ASU,UCLA, and Colorado. USC and Utah are on a different level though.

Arizona hires Rich Rodriguez as coach

Really,Rich Rod is the best Arizona can do,I know their not known for being a top 20 team but come on,this guy leaves a trail of destruction everywhere he coaches.Sorry Zona you will be in worse shape after he gets fired.I hate to say this but the one guy who could turn the program around quick would have been Mike Leach.

is RichRod a Arizona "Man"?

NOPE, he is a man without a home,  he ensured that a few years ago, he will forever be a roamer.

Arizona to hire Rich Rodriguez as coach

Seems like a very good hire for Arizona.  Hopefully he will be met by a more united administration and athletic department.

Arizona to hire Rich Rodriguez as coach

I think Rich Rod did a great job recruiting as attested by the team composition now. Did Hoke or Mattison change the defense? Yep they did, but remember coaching can only take you so far without the talent. Everyone gives Mattison credit for the Ravens defense, oh come on, Ray lewis and the rest of the crew were there long before he got there. They were a good defensive team before he got there and so were the Maize & Blue ...... they just needed time to develop.
bucciboy,

I disgree with you here.  RR did recruit some good players, but not on the defensive side of the ball.  Our defense was going backward under the leadership of RR and Greg Rob.  Then we bring Hoke and Mattison in and all of a sudden our defense is good again, the difference is all coaching.  With the exception of Countess and a few other freshman we are out there with the same team.

I'm not sure about giving credit to Mattison for the Ravens defense, because they had great players already, but he sure deserves credit for running the Florida defense from 05-07.

RR deserved a lot of the criticism that he got, not all but most.  He ran out every good offensive player we had and forced the JV team that was left to run his offense instead of using the talent he had until he could get his recruits in.  He mostly ignored the tradition of a school that loves it, he did it to himself.

Arizona to hire Rich Rodriguez as coach

If this is true then Arizona get a good HC in Rich Rodriguez for the future in Arizona. Rodriguez can still recruit with the best yet and his spread attack offense will be better suited in the west then when he was at Michigan. Rodriguez will succeed better at Arizona and should make the Wildcats into winners in the Pac-12 fast. Great hire by UA.
