Rich Rodriguez will be the next head football coach at Arizona, athletic director Greg Byrne has announced on his Twitter account.

He's expected to bring several of his assistants from Michigan and West Virginia with him to Tucson.

The 48-year-old Rodriguez, who was fired after three seasons at Michigan, had spent the past season working as a college football analyst for CBS. At Michigan, he went 15-22. Before his turbulent stint in Ann Arbor, he coached his alma mater West Virginia to a 60-26 record in seven seasons. His final three seasons, he led the Mountaineers to top 12 finishes and two BCS bowl games.

Rodriguez will take over an Arizona team that is 3-8. The school fired Mike Stoops at midseason.

When your program is down like Michigan's was

Did you just start following CFB in 2008 season??  Before RR, Michigan had 40 winning regular seasons in a row.  The year before he arrived they were 9-4 and gave Urban Meyer and Tebow their only bowl loss ever!!  I bet most schools would give anything to be "down" like Michigan was before RR.  Geesh!!!!

Wrong Chief. He CAN put up poiints with anybody, he just wasnt given enough time to get his proper personnel in place through recruiting, look at HIS recruits and what they are doing now,

What has RR's teams/offense done when consistantly face with good defenses?

RR had three years.   His players today are not playing in a "spread offense" now.

After watching his product on the field the past three seasons, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I honestley hope you are an Arizona fan. I also hope you enjoy Rich Rod. As for Michigan we are very glad he is gone and we really did not want him here in the first place. I hope you give him 10 years to build a program and you bring the likes of Tressel with him. Good luck and enjoy that !!!!

Michigan had unrealistic expectations and gave RR 3 years.

Really?  Would you care to name them?

Is winning more than three games an unrealistic expectation for fans of the school with the most wins and highest winning percentage?

Or is winning more than three games unrealistic considering Michigan hadn't had a losing season in 40+ years?

Or is never having major NCAA violations in the programs history an unrealistic expectation?

Really, what unrealistic expectations did we have?

You are insane!!!!   You "think RR would have Michigan undefeated?"  You really think his defense would've held Illinois to 14 pts, after giving up 148 to them in the last 3 yrs?  Believe it or not, they actually won 1 of those games!  You just don't get it!!  The expectations at Michigan had NOTHING to do w/his offense!  It was the total lack of defense that did him in.  Also, about "Michigan thinks it should win immediately,"  unlike at Arizona, Michigan had 40 winning regular seasons in a row until RR broke that streak in his first year.

it is likely and near certain that this program wil see better days with Rodriguez as its head coach. he has 10 years under his belt as the top guy and his offense is good given the recruits he needs to run it. a good defensive coordinator and the Arizona ildcats could be in the upper echelon of the pac 12 within 2 seasons. Dont understand why this guy gets so much hate from fans...but he probably couldknt care less now that he has another head coaching gig at a fbs school. I for one go on the record as saying the Wildcats just got a major head coaching upgrade.

He CAN put up poiints with anybody, he just wasnt given enough time to get his proper personnel in place through recruiting, look at HIS recruits and what they are doing now, seem to doing pretty well dont they? 3 years is not enough time to properly switch a pro style to a spread style attack, completely unrealistic. as was stated by someone else earlier, he will be given more time at Arizona simply because the expectations aren't as big as Michigans.

RichRod will do good at Arizona.  Michigan had unrealistic expectations and gave RR 3 years.  When your program is down like Michigan's was it takes more than 3 years to rebuild.  Michigan is playing football with alot of his kids and enjoying success.   Arizona will not put the "crazy" expectations on RR and thus will succeed in time.  In 5 years, Arizona will be contending for PAC 12 championships and BCS bowl bids.

Chief you beat me to it. Now the B1G might not be the second best, but from top to bottom compaired to the Pac12 is no contest.
