Rich Rodriguez will be the next head football coach at Arizona, athletic director Greg Byrne has announced on his Twitter account.

He's expected to bring several of his assistants from Michigan and West Virginia with him to Tucson.

The 48-year-old Rodriguez, who was fired after three seasons at Michigan, had spent the past season working as a college football analyst for CBS. At Michigan, he went 15-22. Before his turbulent stint in Ann Arbor, he coached his alma mater West Virginia to a 60-26 record in seven seasons. His final three seasons, he led the Mountaineers to top 12 finishes and two BCS bowl games.

Rodriguez will take over an Arizona team that is 3-8. The school fired Mike Stoops at midseason.

Arizona hires Rich Rodriguez as coach

ANYBODY who is stupid enough to believe that Arizona is a step up from WVU in football doesn't have the good sense that God gave a goose.

'Nuff said.

There's nothing great about his offense, his style of coaching or his recruiting.  He has as much moral fiber as Charlie Sheen, if even that much. He was in our home trying to recruit our was no then, and it should be no now.  He doesn't deserve to coach this young team or lead these young men.
He's not a leader...he's a follower that banks his life on the ideas of others. His only redeeming quality is that he may surround himself with people far more qualified than he is.  He's not the spread offense guru.  He's a poor copycat at best.  He's not respected amongst his peers, and that comes from the inside.  He's a joke.

It's not Michigan but it's a better job than WVU. I'll give him 2 years before he screws up. Rich Rod is not a major conference type of coach. He's better off in the big east or another minor conference.
Good thing he'd just be going to the Pac 12 then... if all he can do is pounce on bottom-feeders, there are enough there for him.  Say what you want, but there were some pretty good Big East teams when he was at WVU.

@teresminor  --- First off Lloyd Carr had recruited Ryan Mallet, you know the number one QB out of HS that year and RR promptly sent him packing after telling Ryan "My way or the highway". What you and most don't know is that Michigan Fan was supporting RR until the 3-9 season, then NCAA football violations for the FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY. Michigan fans saw instate talent going to the "other school" as RR did not even try to get the LOYAL hometown kids as much as out of state players. UM wanted Les Miles and Bill Martin screwed it up not waiting till LSU NC game was over, which left him scrambling to find a coach. IT was not the Spread that killed RR in the B1G, it was the smaller Big East type players that could not handle the grind. RR also spent NOTHING on defense, No time, no coaching, no players at one point UM was ranked 119 in D out of 120 schools. The Seniors on the this team are Lloyd's recruits and Hoke is playing many of the freshmen recruits he brought in. The diffrence is Hoke is adjusting his game plan to fit the players(like the modified spread they still run) and RR was staunch about his players sticking to his system NO MATTER WHAT, exit Ryan Mallet. RR will do ok in AZ because the Pac12 has left over schools that can be beaten with not much effort on D, only B1G schools he will beat are the Indiana's just like when he was here.

RR said it was a big mistake to leave WV, it was his Alma mater and they loved him kinda sad how it turned cause I liked Rich Rod as a person, his style of coaching and recruiting did not work at Michigan.

he will last three years bring in top recruits not go to a bowl and then watch " his seniors" go to  the Rose bowl ...oh wait isnt this going on a Michigan? My personal opinion he should have stayed at West Virginia he was loved he was respected he was one of them but he pissed it all away. For what three great recruiting years to be shunned by two schools was not a good trade

Michigan would have beaten OSU with RR this year

Thanks to Lloyd Carr gutting the Michigan roster on the way out the door, RR had to play with a majority of underclassmen for all three of his years at Michigan.  Those underclassmen are now upperclassmen, and RR had the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of his labor stolen from him by some idiot pizza guy who claims Bo Schembechler as his mentor but ignored one of Bo's strongest beliefs: that any coach deserves five years before being fired.
This is also the weakest OSU has been since the 1990's.  Brady Hoke is doing a great job so far, but RR would have just as good a record if he had come back and hired a decent DC.  Even though he had to rebuild from scratch and didn't even have a bona fide major college QB his first year, RR's teams improved by two wins every year.  That would have translated to at least nine wins this year, and possibly more due to a lot of B1G teams being weaker than prpjected this year.
If RR actually gets the support he should have gotten at Michigan, he will do well at AZ.  He will beat a few B1G teams along the way, but there will still be a few idiots who insist that the spread "won't work in the Big Ten."  I wonder what those idiots will think in a few years if Urban Meyer ends up at PSU or OSU?

Michigan without Rich Rod will beat OSU this year

Arizona should hire Jim Tressel, who was mistreated by OSU. And by the way, OSU's win streak over Michigan will come to an end this Saturday. So enjoy Thanksgiving turkey. You'll be eating crow on Saturday.
