Rich Rodriguez will be the next head football coach at Arizona, athletic director Greg Byrne has announced on his Twitter account.

He's expected to bring several of his assistants from Michigan and West Virginia with him to Tucson.

The 48-year-old Rodriguez, who was fired after three seasons at Michigan, had spent the past season working as a college football analyst for CBS. At Michigan, he went 15-22. Before his turbulent stint in Ann Arbor, he coached his alma mater West Virginia to a 60-26 record in seven seasons. His final three seasons, he led the Mountaineers to top 12 finishes and two BCS bowl games.

Rodriguez will take over an Arizona team that is 3-8. The school fired Mike Stoops at midseason.

just find it funny how many WVU fans that pound rodriguez for his coaching or his recruiting. he brought them the only football success in the history of that school...but yet they kill him at every instance of his mentioned name.  just move on folks....the guy aint so bad.

arizona gives him about 3 years he will bring them respectability. maybe not becoming championship caliber in the pac12..but he will field some good teams that score a lot of points in a traditionally offense heavy league. if 8 or 9 wins is respectable for wildcat football followers..then this was a good hire.

Arizona hires Rich Rodriguez as coach

Why would any respected university want to be associated with this weasel?  I've been asking that question a lot lately - it doesn't take much for these "educational" institutions to sell their ideals for a chance at gridiron or hardcourt glory.  They'll get what they deserve.

I don't think anyone would argue that the expectations at Michigan were much higher than they should be at Arizona.  I'm not saying the hire is a good one but a first year turn around would seem unlikely and since the 'Cats budget would not likely be the same as Michigan any improvement at all will probably buy him more time to succeed.  Good luck RR

Well it's time for Arizona to learn the same lesson Michigan did, a gigantic piece of the success RichFraud has had over the years has been the 3-3-5 defense as run by Jeff Casteel who is still at WVU.  The defensive scheme in and of itself is good and compliments the spread nicely, but you need the right guy recruiting and making the calls and he didn't follow you to Michigan Rich.  All of us in Mountaineer nation look forward to cheering for every Pac 12 team that beats your ass and leads you back to the unemployment line.

Not sure if you would have given be the compliment if you knew I attendedOSUJ Schoolup north may have a chance this year. Enjoy it because once Urban Meyers get toColumbusit will be another 10 years of losing. I know Meyers going to OSU is the worst fear of all the people that reside up in that frozen tundra.

Arizona Screws Themselves

Normally I try to be nice, but not this time:

hahahahhahahahahhahahahahhaha

Zona, how freaking stupid can you be?!?!?!? Do they not see what this idiot did/does as a head coach?!?!?! If they thought Stoops was bad, they haven't seen anything yet. Enjoy the basement and the laughing stock of college football. May the Cats hurry and fail so they can become competitive in the PAC.

Everyone is going to carve up that pathetic 3-3-5 defense he will force on the players. He will run any of your talent our of town. In fact now that I think about how bad of a decision this is, I think I feel bad. On second thought, NO, you brought it on yourselves. Michigan was plenty of evidence to know NOT to hire this idiot.

hahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha

Zona is already eliminated from PAC 12 consideration.

Sad thing about this is 70 years ago the Arizona sunk the first time, and now Rodriguez is gonna ride another ship to the bottom.
