Andruw Jones and the Yankees have reached an agreement on a $2 million deal plus incentives for 2012, pending a physical.

Jones had a nice year with the Yankees in 2011, and both sides were thrilled with how things went, both on the field and in the clubhouse. Jones, who was believed to have received some interest from the Red Sox and Orioles, among others, clearly wanted to remain a Yankee. He also has transitioned nicely to a part-time role after beginning his career as a star.

Jones hit .246 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI with New York in 2011.

seems like the guys that just got out of the minors, or the old one they pay a couple of million, help the team the most, not the ones they pursue and pay over 20 mil.

a streaky power hitter that doesnt hit for average and strikes out a lot. that doesnt sound like anyone else in this lineup at all.

Weird off-season when this is like the biggest news (other than retaining CC).  Sheesh--Yanks not going to be any better next year with all those ageing starters.

Considering the size of most MLB contracts, this is not a bad deal.  Jones has performed well in a limited role in the American League for the past three seasons. He has been getting about 250 ab's on average, hitting between 13 to 19 hr's, and about 50 rbi's.  If he can dh, get abround 400 ab's, he should produce at 20 -25 hr's and give you 65 to 70 rbi's.  I would take those numbers, gladly pay 2 million plus the incentives.  He's good in the clubhouse and he wants to play for the team he signed with.  Jones is a team player and it's great that both he and the Yankees are pleased with the contract.  What's not to like about this?

Yanks need to do more than just resign all of their players from last year(absent Posada). They have some work to do to improve that pitching staff if they're going to make any noise in the playoffs.

It's hard not to like the guy.  Big HR and RBI numbers, very likeable and he's probably not even a juicer.  The Yankees got a good bargain, even by their standards.

For less than 200 at bat the number that jumps out at you are the 47 rbi's. Not to bad for a player once thought washed up.

Pretty decent OPS for a fat has-been with less than 200 ABs.  $2M is a bit much, though.
