UK Gets a break in '12... But Not this year!

Posted on: September 15, 2012 2:39 am

The following is an a post that I made during the UNC/Creighton NCAA Tournament game last year.  This game is the SOLE reason UK escaped the NCAA tourney with a championship.  Had the Tar Heels been 85% full strength, UK would NOT have won it all last year.  Read on....

"The University of Kentucky could have possibly sealed it's 2012 National Championship at the 14:59 mark in the 1st quarter of the UNC vs MD game today. It appears, at the very least, that John Henson has a bad sprain in his left wrist, and could be broken.

Tar Heel fans must wait to get the report on his status which bears a tremendous responsibility on the Heels tournament success. What a year... Leslie McDonald, Dexter Strickland, and now the possibility of losing Henson. UK fans should feel incredibly fortunate to have dodged the injury bug, another piece of the puzzle to crafting a title.

If Henson is OK, look out UK. The Heels are peaking and playing as well as any team in the Country and are the biggest threat to UK winning it's 8th title. There's no doubt that McAdoo and Hubert will be getting significant minutes for the rest of the ACC Tournament and the first 2 rounds of the NCAA Tournament, which will help their development at this crucial juncture.

For any doubters, don't dismiss what the Heels did to Duke... in Durham, last Saturday. That was emphatic against a very good team in the most hostile environment in college hoops (Rupp is a joke). They've also weathered the storm of losing Henson for the rest of the Maryland game and playing most of the 2nd half without Zeller. This is a very dangerous team.

Here's to healing Henson and hopefully a somewhat full strength rematch with UK... Go Heels!"

So... Here we are at the doorstep of the 2012-2013 College hoops season and UK is once again in hot water with the overrated Nerlens Noel.  The bottom line, it will not make any difference if Nerlens plays this year or not.  The rabbits foot will not lay another path so easy for this overrated program as it did last year.  The simple fact is, UK got every break possible to win the NCAA Chamionship last year... literally.  UK fans cannot stand the fact that they have 8 tainted banners, and fall incredibly short to the UNC program.  UNC owns UK in head to head match ups and was recently tabbed as the most significant college hoops program of all time. Could anyone honestly place UK in the category of the most significant college hoops program of all time?  Do you have a Jordan, Worthy, Perkins, MacAdoo (the 2nd will be coming soon), Jones, Kupchak, Ford, Carter, Jamison, Cunningham, Karl, the REAL Davis as in Walter Davis, Hansbrough, Lawson, Felton, and the list could go  on.  Look, to play with the big boys, you need to get you program in order UK.  It all starts with academics, quality student athletes (can you imagine a student like Tyler Zeller playing hoops at UK? HAAAA HAAA), and do it the right way.  The one-and-done, zero regard for academics imprint you are laying on the college hoops scene is abject at best.  If UK players can't hang with the combo of hoops/acdemic life, go the hell to Europe and play!

As for UK fans... Most of you never even attended anything that resembled post high school education so pour another glass of Whiskey and ride a horse... It really is all you have to hold on to!

And a few other things that you're wrong about:

UNC is the program in hot water with the UNC right now, not UK.

UNC owns UK in head to head match ups and was recently tabbed as the most significant college hoops program of all time.
Actually, UNC was tabbed as the best program over the last 50 years.

ESPN rated UK as the number one program OF ALL TIME

Note:  UNC was ranked #4.  (last time I checked, "ALL TIME" > "Last 50 years"

If you want to narrow it down to a specific time range and cherry pick your stats, that's easy enough to do... who's the reigning National Champs?

My concern for UK is their lack of depth.  If one of their top 6 suffers an injury, it could be tough on them.  The other thing that UK will experience is improved play as the season goes along, but something no one is saying... the grind on Freshmen as you get into March.

On April 2, 2012 look out for Roy spitting in the Mississippi and setting the stage for title #3 in the Dome.  The Heel's have too much talent & depth to go along with a coaching staff who knows a thing or TWO about winning National Championships.  Go Heels and anyone playing dook.

As much as it pains me to write this, I don't see anyone taking down UK. I would be shocked if they lose a game for the rest of the season. Even when they play poorly, this UK team now has the horses to overcome poor performances. The only teams that I see giving them a threat are the Heels (I'll explain), Syracuse (with Melo), and Ohio State.

At this point in the season, UK is an awesome team and really shouldn't lose another game. The only teams that can beat UK are the Heels, OSU, FSU, and Cuse. UK has clearly been lucky this year by dodging injuries. With that, if they fail to win it all, it will be the worst collapse in college hoops history and a disastrous coaching job by Cal.

For your education... UK should win it all.  Very few prognosticators are counting them out.  They have two players who are in serious contention to win Player of the Year.  They are healthy. They play D. On paper and on the court at this point in the season, UK is playing the best basketball.  They are the heavy favorites in all publications to win it all.

UK is clearly the favorite to win it all this year. No one can match up to them. Probably the greatest team in the history of college basketball or for that matter sports. Can they handle the pressure? Will they wilt? If so, it will go down as another collapse, but this one will be the biggest ever based on their current stature.

For all you Kentucky honks, and that includes the massive bandwagon contingent with tags still in your UK apparel, there is ZERO chance you beat the Heels for a Nat'l Title with a healthy Marshall.

My personal favorite...

The Heels won the game... PERIOD. Another Final 8. Another NCAA Tournament victory to add to the record books. Give Ohio credit, don't diss them. To relegate Ohio to a doldrum 13th seed is irresponsible. There's not a backcourt left in this tournament that can match the quickness of Ohio. PERIOD! The Heels have a huge mountain to climb without Marshall, but winning games like this (which should be a loss) are what make Champions. I don't think there are any fans in Lawrence buying tickets to New Orleans right now, and if they are, they are not too comfortable with the purchase. This team is still awfully dangerous even after playing and winning an ugly game. If if's and but's were candy and nuts, we'd all win a National Championship... one thing is certain, with Marshall, no one left in this tournament beats the Heels. Without Marshall, they can still win it all, it's just going to be an unorthodox process that no team will enjoy competing against. Oh, and ponder this. If UK's Anthony Davis put up Zeller's numbers (20 points, 22 boards, 4 blocks), the pundits would be doing back flips.

UK Gets a break in '12... But Not this year!

Well, to put things in context, you flip flopped back and forth depending on how healthy UNC was.

When UNC was healthy, all you could talk about was how unstoppable UK was.

When UNC was facing injuries, then you'd cry and cry about how UNC *would* win if they were healthy.

Too bad you aren't enough of a man to back up your team when they're healthy.  Instead you're a coward and just throw out false bravado while making excuses for them.
