Top Ten Things I Would Like To See Regarding Baseball

MLB Sports Fans

1 Put the designated hitter in the National League or remove the DH in the American League. Let’s create some uniformity. It is crazy when the world series is played. The home team uses the DH when the games are played in an American League Park. But there is no DH when the games are played in the National League Park.

2 Re: Ground Rules or Grounds Rules or Grounds Rule – Not Grounds Round or ground beef. I never know what they call the play. If, in the opinion of the umpire. I know I know, some of you do not like opinions, especially by umpires. But the umpire thinks that Derek Jeter should score on a well hit ball by Alex Rodriguez that a fan touches. Derek Jeter may have been running on the pitch. The umpire thinks that Derek should score even though the ball went into the stands or a fan touched the ball. Derek Jeter is then sent back to third base if the fan touched the ball. Let the man score already. Do not send him back to third base. See how confusing it is.

3 Food and drink at the ball park costing less than a mortgage payment. I suggest having a special night where people can eat at ½ the regular price for a hot dog. Half price night.

4 Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Derek Jeter, Tony Lazzeri, Graig Nettles and Bill Dickey play as a team. Today. So what if I am a little wacky.

5 The plastic bag liner that is used in the Metrodome is torn down and replaced with Saran Wrap. For no good reason, except to see how it would look.

6 All stadiums with retractable roofs. In case I am at a game and it starts to rain or the weather gets too cold. Hey close the roof.

7 Mel Allen is announcing games again. I loved it when he started up the broadcast with his famous "Hello There Everybody."

8 People that at one time loved baseball. Now because of a strike, or steroids, or corked bats or exorbitant salaries, or whatever issue they had with the game turned away from baseball. They rekindle their love for the game and have some baseball fun.

9 My daughter (she plays softball) bats over .600 this year.

10 Your team wins. Unless they are playing against my team.

Top Ten Things I Would Like To See in Baseball

I echo StevenKeys when he says he cringes at the though of the DH in the NL.  The DH was a experiment to see if haveing old sluggers hitting home runs would spark attendance.  He turned in to a semi-retirement program for the defensively challenged with big contracts.  The Players Assoc. isn't giving that up.

What I want is some playoff and World Series games in the daylight.  Not during prime time and when  alphabet city (FOX, ESPN, ABC, MLBN) the true owners of baseball make the most money.

Top Ten Things I Would Like To See in Baseball

Baseball used to be great, not only because of the game itself, but the relationship the team had with the community.  New York and Boston are the last two teams with a real relationship with their home teams.  The games are a part of the day in summer just like dinner, i would like the players the league the stadiums get to to know the pwoplw again.  At Comerica park in july on a thursday afternoon the crowd is small have a set amount of low cost games ten bucks, bring school kids in build the relationship.

The second this that I would like to see that is during interleague play have the games played by the visiting teams league rules so if a National League team visits an America League team the pitcher bats. Let us see something different.

Top Ten Things I Would Like To See in Baseball

PARITY, PARITY, PARITY, PARITY, PARITY, PARITY, PARITY, PARITY, PARITY, PARITY (I think thats 10)

The MLB should finally take a page from the NFL and figure out that the way to expand the fan base is to get more fans interested. You do that by making all teams relevant. The thinking that what's good for the Yankees and Red Sox is good for baseball is a philosophy that died along time ago. Time to make the game actually better!

  1. A decision will probably be made on that when it comes time to renew the MLBPA labor agreeement.
  2. The description here was more confusing than not knowing a specific "ground rule" or the specific "ground rules" of a home park.
  3. It does cost a lot. Places do have special discount nights already.
  4. Maybe there is a version of strat-o-matic or a group of Yankees enthusiasts who coudl help you.
  5. The Twins no longer play in the Metrodome. They play at Target Field, but you wouldn't like Target Field because...
  6. Retractable roofs cost a TON of money and besides, the game is meant to be played outdoors whenever possible.
  7. R.I.P Mel Allen. He is calling games involving your fantasy Yankee team you put together.
  8. Fans love baseball.Admittedly, some of them would rather talk on their cell phones and wave at cameras instead of enjoy the game.
  9. Not sure what your daughter's softball batting average has to do with baseball.
  10. As George Will once said, the best teams lose 1/3rd of their games, the worst teams win 1/4rd of their games.  It is that middle 3rd that determines success and failure. One team wins, one team loses, and the next day baseball is played again unless its an off day or the season is over.

Top Ten Things I Would Like To See in Baseball

I would love to see a rule saying that a pitcher MUST pitch x amount of innings in a set amount of time or they must be released or put on the DL. The only exemptiion is if the starting pitchers average more than 7 innings per game in that given time period. I like to see pitchers play their aholes out. Toughen up a little MLB. Lets start seeing starting pitchers pitch into the game.

Top Ten Things I Would Like To See in Baseball

While I cringe at talk of instituting the DH in the NL, over the years I’ve come to accept it in the AL. It’s become part of its make-up, it’s fabric, so-to-speak. I also like the separate Leagues having distinguishing characteristics. Besides, players are OK with it 'as is' and the NL suffers no power-outage when it matters most, the fall classic

Number 3 (pricing at parks) is a must. Eventually it’s gonna’ hurt the game. Only the privileged few will be able to attend and enjoy themselves.
