Classless Boston Celtics Are The NBA Champions

The NBA Finals taught us a lot of different things this year. For one, it taught ESPN--or at least I hope it did--that this Finals matchup was nothing like Magic vs. Bird, and that Kobe Bryant, though still the best player in the league, isn't Michael Jordan. The comparisons need to stop now. In addition, the finals taught us that the Boston Celtics, despite almost getting knocked off by Atlanta (could it have been fixed to go 7?) and Cleveland are actually a great basketball team and lived up to their hype. And Finally....The NBA Finals taught us one more thing......

That the Boston Celtics (and their fans) have no class whatsoever.

We've all heard the phrase "act like you've been their before." The Boston Celtics did anything but this in during the NBA Finals last night. If I were a fan of the Boston Celtics, while I'd be happy they won, I would be ashamed of the performances the team put on during the 4th quarter last night. Don't get me wrong, the Celtics played an excellent ballgame...an excellent series for that matter....and in no way am I saying that they didn't deserve to win. However...Never, in all my years watching the NBA have I seen a team "show up" the other team that bad in the NBA Finals. With still half of the fourth quarter left to play, the Celtics superstars took forever to get off the court.....That's fine. Whatever. I understand that. However, after they exited, it was one big circus on the sidelines as the players were excessively celebrating, giving hugs, standing on the court....ALL WITH 6 MINUTES LEFT IN THE GAME!

Then, Doc Rivers decision to allow his players to run up the score was ridiculous. The game was already had and he's allowing his players to be on the floor throwing up alley-oops and score quickly rather than running down the clock......Then, if it weren't already bad enough.....Doc RIvers (right) gets the Gatorade shower while the game is still going on? I've never seen this in professional basketball ever! Thanks for spilling gatorade all over the court and forcing a TV timeout so they could clean the stuff up.

On to the fans.....Chanting "Hey Hey Hey..... Goodbye" with 6 minutes left to go?.....Again.....not classy at all.

I know it was a blowout, but still.....look back at the previous championships won in the NBA by the Spurs, Heat, Pistons, Lakers, Bulls and Rockets. Not once IN ANY OF THOSE SERIES did I see anything that resembled the drama that the Boston Celtics had on their sidelines. They had too much respect for their opponent to pull those kind of stunts. The Boston Celtics had absolutely no respect for the Lakers whatsoever.

People might say that I'm just a "Boston hater," but that simply isn't true. Personally, I'm not a fan of either team, though I love watching NBA basketball. I just wanted to see a good series, and it really wasn't that. However, I still watched all the games. I congratulate the Celtics for their win......just not their class.

On a side note: Maybe the NBA won't have to put an age limit anymore as kids will probably want to stay in school after hearing Kevin Garnett's comments noises after the game.....He wants to thank his momma peanut and tell everyone that...."He's certified.".....Congrats Kevin.

Classless Boston Celtics Are The NBA Champions

Some players in the professional ranks, and you've been around to know this, BP, have $$$$ attached to their stats (such as incentive clauses). So they have no reason whatsoever to let up.Not in this scenario. The only incentive bonus that these players had in their contracts came if they won the NBA Finals MVP so it only applies to players like Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett (Both of which were taken out and putting on a show on the sidelines).

"classless", why should that term apply just to the Celtics here?Because you never saw Kobe Bryant or Shaquille O'neal or another other Lakers player for that matter showboating on the sideline, delaying the game in progress, and disrespecting the other team. They never did this. Not when they beat Indiana, not when they beat Philly, and not when they beat New Jersey. Nor have I ever seen the recent champions (Spurs, Heat, Pistons) do this. Nor have I seen Michael Jordan's Bulls team do that (Yes...Michael Jordan's Bulls team that beat the Jazz by 42 in one game). Celebrating after the game is one thing, but doing it with 6 minutes left to go and INTERUPTING the game in progress is absolute B.S.

They were fortunate to win two of three games in LA. And that's a fact. Not really. Game 3 and Game 5 were pretty sound wins. Meanwhile, the Lakers dominated in the first half of game four and BARELY lost. So no, they weren't "fortunate" just to take two. The Celtics were fortunate to take one in LA....especially when the Lakers built that lead.

You should hope Baron Davis shows up next year and gets you somewhere - or you're going to be munching on sour grapes again next year.No sour grapes here....I am happy with the way the Warriors played this season. The fact that they didn't get into the playoffs this season says nothing about how they played. That's just the way the league is set up. Nothing you can do about it.

As for Baron Davis, he's a great player, but the Warriors are slowly becoming Monta Ellis' team now.

BP, I'll conclude by saying I'm very surprised at your tone here. You're generally pretty level-headed and thoughtful about your posts.....which should say something about how I feel about the Celtics showing up the Lakers. Again, I'm not a fan of either team, I just thought what was happening on the sideline in game 4 was classless. I've been watching the NBA for years now and I've never seen a team disrespect another opponent in the finals like that.

There is no excuse Boston.

Oh, and another thing - we've had a few parades here the past few years and have some extra snow fence to lend. Do you think Oakland could use some? You know ... for THEIR parades??

That the Boston Celtics (and their fans) have no class whatsoever.

Hey BP: BOO HOO!!! Deal with it. LOL

And another thing, if you're a team playing in the NBA finals - and this is the pros, not college or high school - there is no such thing as "taking it easy." Some players in the professional ranks, and you've been around to know this, BP, have $$$$ attached to their stats (such as incentive clauses). So they have no reason whatsoever to let up. That's just the basics. But if the Lakers, who have spanked many a team at the Staples Center in the past (shall I look up the stats?? - because they do exist) can do it and NOT be called "classless", why should that term apply just to the Celtics here?  I'll tell you why: because the Lakers weren't good enough to win any game by 39 pts. They were fortunate to win two of three games in LA. And that's a fact.

As to the fans thing, I won't even address it. There are great fans and lousy fans everywhere. You should hope Baron Davis shows up next year and gets you somewhere - or you're going to be munching on sour grapes again next year.

BP, I'll conclude by saying I'm very surprised at your tone here. You're generally pretty level-headed and thoughtful about your posts. This is an all-time low in my opinion.

Sorry, I don't agree.  They're at the brink of winning the biggest game of their lives, at home, and emotions were running high.  Or I guess they're supposed to be robots.

No, but they are suppose to act like they have some class, which apparently they don't.

For example, the BEAT LA chant was started by Boston fans when the Celtics were losing game 6 and the series in the conference finals against the Sixers in the 80's. Really? Pretty sure S.F. Giants fans have been chanting that since the early '60's.

Classless Boston Celtics Are The NBA Champions

How long are Lakers fans going to cry about this stuff?I'm not a Laker fan nor am I a Celtic fan....However, I've been watching the NBA for a long time now and have never seen a team show up their opponent this bad in a game. The Celtics had no respect for their opponent and no class whatsoever.

Remember, Kobe can score 40 a game but when the rest of the teams combines for 30 or less you will lose most of the time.True. Kobe had a decent series considering the fact that he got NO HELP WHATSOEVER from any of his teammates. The Celtics didn't have to worry about covering Pau, Odom, or the shooters off the bench. All they had to do was focus on Kobe to win and they did.

Again...I'm not bashing the Celtics for their play. They outplayed the Lakers and deserve the championship. However, that doesn't take away from them showing up the other team with over half of the fourth quarter still to play.

So in a way I give them a pass because they have never been on this stage before, but they are still professional athletes and should no how to act.Exactly. As I said in my post, "act like you've been there before." None of the previous NBA champions ever showed up their opponent like this.

you say the celtic team is classless yet the lakers have 3 of the biggest floppers/crybabies in the game Vujacic, Odom, GasolOkay....Then what do you call Paul Pierce in game one? As another poster said on these boards, we need to insert Paul Pierce into the LeBron James commercial, cause cleary.......Dude's fakin' it!

i personally could go on a 2 page rant about philly fansWe aren't talking about Philly. Also, Philadelphia teams never have anything to get excited about cause they never win anything.

It doesn't apply.

and last but not least if any of you have a problem with the garorade dump on rivers well then you should stop watching football as wellThey don't have to stop the game to clean up the gatorade that was spilled all over the court in football

Kobe never said he was Jordan, you did, and the media did. You say Kobe is no Jordan, who made the comparision? You did. Kobe is Kobe, he only is compared to Jordan when you bring it up. Don't compare people if you are just going to insult themI did?.....Will you stop for a second and read what I wrote.

I clearly stated that ESPN kept hyping the comparisons. In case you forgot, this is what I wrote:

"For one, it taught ESPN--or at least I hope it did--that this Finals matchup was nothing like vs. Bird, and that , though still the best player in the league, isn't Michael Jordan."
