Dale Jarrett

Kind of a big day for Jarrett today. The three-time champion is not yet guaranteed a starting spot in Sunday's 500.

He said he's rooting hard for Kurt Busch in Duel 1. If Busch can race his way into the 500, Jarrett would be able to use the champion's provisional. Right now, Busch has it because he was the most recent champion.

But if Busch finishes poorly in Duel 1, the pressure is on Jarrett. It's impossible to say right now where he'd have to finish in Duel 2 because of NASCAR's convoluted formula to set the 500, but top 10 is a good bet.

If Jarrett falls short of the 500 on his own merits, he said he will not bump David Reutimann from his ride.
