Reed Sorenson topped the practice charts Friday afternoon with a speed of 190.351 mph. He was followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Scott Riggs and Jimmie Johnson.
Sorenson has been mad fast during Speedweeks, but one key factor is likely going to kill any shot he has of winning the 500 -- his teammates are nowhere to be found.
Dario Franchitti is a Cup novice, while Juan Pablo Montoya was dead last in Friday's session, topping out at a speed of 184.767 and running just five laps.
I still think he'll be in the mix Sunday, but if he's in contention on the last lap, he could get ganged up on.
Six drivers missed or skipped Friday's session: Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin, J.J. Yeley, Kenny Wallace and Mark Martin.
Said Busch of skipping practice, "Our car is really good. We dont' feel like we need to practice today because our car drove really well, handled great in the draft. I was able to change lanes anytime I wanted to and move all over the track. I pretty much don't need to put any more time on the engine or on the car and take a chance of wrecking it today."
