Oregon's new uniforms -- Wings!

Here we go again ...

More new football uniforms from Oregon. I believe this is the 39th time Oregon has updated or changed their uniforms in the past decade. It's getting a little out of control.

The press release states:

Nike designers have made advancements from Oregon's last update in 2006, which featured uniforms that were more durable and 28-percent lighter than the previous generation. The latest editions have improved ergonomics and ventilation characteristics, and feature laminate numbering that does not soak up any moisture and has an 85-percent weight differential compared to traditional tackle twill.

Laminate anti-abrasion shoulder reinforcement, in the form of wings, takes the place of "diamond plate" on the current jersey, a 200-percent savings in weight differential between materials.

Translation -- No more tire tracks on the shoulders. The jerseys now have wings. (Get it, Ducks have wings.)

But my favorite part is Oregon now has 80 different combinations (jersey/pants/helmet) at their disposal. That's insane.

With most of the Oregon uniform changes, I think they are awful. Here are the pics for 2009. What do you think?

Personally, I liked these uniforms back in the day.

UGLY UGLY UGLY.  What is the point of these hideous things? they look like rejected USFL designs. No self respecting RollerBall team would wear these God-Awful looking uniforms.
there has been such a movement toward "Throwback" and "Traditional" uniforms in the last few years. Did Oregon not get the memo?
I want to insult them more, but I just can not think of words in english language to express how ugly they are. Hell, the
"back in the day" uniforms the author likes were the ugliest things in sports at the time, these things make the infamous orange and black Canucks uniforms look good.

i really like the the uniforms, but at the same time it is a little crazy the amount of different combinations that they can wear. I am personnally an alabama fan and would raise hell if they ever mess with our uniform. what happen to the (guess you would say "Throwback") jerseys of the 90's with the duck on it. that was my favorite. part of me says that a college uniform is a traditional thing that should not be changed year in and year out...or every game. you wear one color is for away and one for home. what color do there fans wear...they got black, silver, green, yellow, white,

Exactly dvg, Oregon doesn't have a tradition of winning on the football field, so they cannot sell that to recruits.  4 ten win seasons since 2000 is good but not great.  0 national championships has been matched or exceeded by every single team in college football.  7 conference titles is OK, but when you consider that USC has won the last 7 conference titles, doesn't really look all that good.  Now, Oregon has been consistently good, but if they want to get to great then they have to get great players and great amounts of exposure.  Well, very good players have Oregon rated highly on their lists, so they've got a good start there.  When it comes to exposure, well, the marketing department is succeeding in that area.

Hmmmm, I wonder what the purpose of new uniforms could be?  It couldn't possibly be to get people talking about Oregon, could it?  No possible way that sort of marketing could possibly work...could it?  Oh wait, it is working, all you "traditionalists" are talking about it.
You mean like resorting to marketing gimmicks to attract players and attention as opposed to traditional means like winning on the field.
