Gender bias here on the community?

Really, I do not complain.

But I am going to make a point. There is innuendo running round these boards and it's fine really. Pictures of gals, barely dressed...I am fine with it. It's okay to make reference to breast and butt implants, obviously as a joke...this is not seen as crossing the line. But when I put an avatar up last night, as a joke in reference to my infamous buzz, it was deemed as inappropriate. I appealed the warning, but it has been denied, and that I am fine with as well.

I understand, I am a female on a sports message board. I come here on a regular basis, and see avatars of women that are in bikini's or positions that you men like...do us women complain no...merely because we are in a man's world. But seriously, where is the line drawn, I can joke with the best of you and have a good time, many times I have been the brunt of the joke, many of my attributes, we won't mention them...i can take it and dish it out. I have a blast with my peeps on the college basketball board.  I am trying to state a fact that the avatar I had up last night was a text avatar, you really could not read it unless you purposely enlarged it. It was put up in a joking fashion...so this is inappropriate?

It is rather frustrating to come on here as a sports fan day in and day out and put up with sexism, but after all that is the world of sports. I have been a sports fan for so long, you become oblivious to it after a while. I do not understand how certain things are judged inappropriate, while other things that have been on these boards for so very long are not...someone said earlier this is a cookie cutter approach, and that is absolutely correct. Things have gotten out of hand, and needed to be addressed. But these things have needed to be addressed for well over a year, it seems as though the approach is rather rash...

Gender bias here on the community?

Go get'em Dook. These admins are messed up and can't tell humor from porn on most days. I have my issues with them as well. You have to be so PC on many issues, but the trolls can post rude disgusting porn and still be here tomorrow repeating yesterdays filth.  The trolls change to a different SN, even ones that spell out filth and the admins ignore it. SeeBS can't figure out how to ban a IP address and be done with them? The people keep me here Dook, keep up your postings and people will continue to read. Screw CBS and their poorly trained minions. And this is the problem that has been ongoing for well over a year. There are popular threads here that people frequent, many have abandoned, because the trolls and stalkers come. They post blatant personal attacks on other members or disgusting porn images and posts that take a minimum of 12 hours or more to remove, often weekends...not that the member base has not tried, but to no avail. You'd think that someone with ten warnings in the span of five minutes would raise a red flag, and there'd be a system to automatically suspend their account, until an admin can review said members activity. This not only protects the site, but also other members and does not subject us to such activity. I can not count on my two hands how many times this has happened, I have refreshed to find such images, and left a thread to warn this person left to go elsewhere on the board and then the person attacks me on another thread for warning them.

People have left the site, good posters mind you because of their frustration with this, some have even spawned their own sites, some are quite successful as well. I have stuck it out, I enjoy posting here, and will continue to do so. But seriously, there are things, basic things that can be done to improve this site. Yes, the blogs are awesome, the groups are cool, many improvements that have been made have tweaked the site to be more functionable. Ask your members what they want, and most of us will tell you this is one of them, we are so tired of this trolling and stalking. Another would be more emoticons...simple but easy to do. And there could also be users appointed as moderators as well...

Your next Avatar should be of you burning your bra
Wow that'd  be one big fire...I think I might need a fireman nearby just in case.

Sorry to here that.  If I would have saw it I would have razzed you about it, but it would not have bothered me.  Sometimes the Admins are not too smart.  I like the community, but sometimes I realize the nuts are running the asylum here.  On one board the other day someone posted something about Hurricane Katrina and then some idiot that can hide behind his computer made a comment about the crybabies and lazy people in New Orleans and finished up by saying they can go eat fried chicken and drink colt 45.  So obvious racial slurs.

Now I lost my home in New Orleans and another poster had posted before that about losing his grandparents.  I didn't let this bother me and replied with this post:

I hope to god you are under the age of 21 and are to stupid to realize what you said.  Otherwise you may what to go get checked out for mental "__________".

I am sure you can fill in the blank.  I think it was a medical term at one point or it is another word for down syndrome that was made to be not PC.  So to the CBS Admins think it is ok to throw racial slurs, but not use a word for down syndrome and I have seen much worse than that on here.

Gender bias here on the community?

Totally agree on your thoughts Dook.....

Ever since I posted Day 1, I was critiqued because I am a woman and that I am able to talk about sports and have a fair amount of knowledge on many sports (thanks dad).  I don't know if it is just plain sexism, that guys are intimadated, or they forget that women do have brains and their own opinions.  The avatars of women don't bother me, women are beautiful, but the constant "trashing" of women posters on this board gets very old

Gender bias here on the community?

dook,
You are one of this board's most intellegent posters. You are well-versed in your sports knowledge
and anyone who takes 2 minutes to read any of your posts would know that.
I can't believe something as ridiculous as an inappropriate avatar constitutes a warning for YOU
when there are thousands of scantily clad ladies floating around other members.

I am no prude. I'm a healthy, straight, single man, but when I want to see and talk sports, I don't necessary
think about sex at the same time...There are plenty of other places on the Net that
I cold go to see ladies barely dressed...I don't need to see them on some board members' avatar.

So dook, my dear, continue to sound off. I look forward to hearing/reading more from you and small fry and the
world around you.

Thank you! But I will take my warning with a grain of salt, and keep on trucking, and stir the pot up as I go along....

Good post YC.

Dook - I've done some research-

Admin6 has issued 32 - YES 32 - warnings since June 2. Fully 21 of those have been for "Inappropriate Avatar", 4 of the members so warned are no longer in the system (did they fold up camp and leave?). Another 4 were banned outright (3 of these APPEAR to be the same member  -  after being banned for "pornographic content" he came back 2 times with the SAME type of content - and got banned BOTH times). The rest are basic warnings, TOS, SPAM (!?), and a PM. There are 2 members that either replaced their "Inapp. Av." with another "Inapp. Av." or haven't replaced the Av that got them the warning in the 1st place.

A6 has been BUSY, huh?

I don't recall seeing anything posted by CBS that said they were either changing the criteria for an "Inapp. Av.", or even that they were just going to enforce rules already in place. Had CBS done that little thing, you wouldn't have posted that Av. I feel I know you well enough to make that statement, as we've interacted on this site for well over a year now. As screwed up as this site has been at times, you're one of the reasons I keep coming back. Thanks, DOOK.

Don't let this get you down, DOOK. You seem to have gotten caught up in a "sweep" of the site. Wrong Av at the wrong time.

O4F

ooh good point O4F...thanks for the support as well! I have missed you my friend! thanks for the research as well

Gender bias here on the community?

Hey, a woman bore you guys, show some respect!  Seriously, Dook is entitled to her opinion, aren't we all?  I can understand your frustration, Dook.  I remember when I first joined, I just went about my business, posted here and there, and all of a sudden some troll starts posting extremely derrogatory stuff to me.  Ok, not worth getting upset over, but I thought the site would want to know.  They overruled my warning.  To me, it was like saying, stop being a baby or prude.  I'm certainly not either.

I'm reminded of a line from A League of Our Own.  Tom Hanks had just gotten done screaming at Evelyn, and the umpire comes over and says he should treat all the girls like he would his mother or sister....something to that effect.  Something similar was said in the movie, North Country.  If you wouldn't want something said or done to your Mom or sister, don't say or do it to any woman.  I know that's not really the point of your post here, Dook, so sorry.  The point is, us women on here should be allowed to do and say whatever the guys do and say if we choose.

  Great point YC!

Hence the reason I had my beefcake avatar protest back in February.
