Blog Day Afternoon: What to call THE CATCH?

I just can't come up with anything. Maybe it's because I haven't had coffee for hours. Maybe it's because there are only so many things that rhyme with "catch" or "reception" or "Tyree." Maybe I'm just not clever enough.

I can't figure out a catchy term/phrase/whatchamacallit for Eli Manning's toss to David Tyree in the fourth quarter. It was jaw-dropping, It was definitely immaculate. It's a combination of all sorts of superlatives. Some that may invoke the name of God, various other sacred things and Rue McClanahan.

So help me, help you's.

What do we call this thing? Somebody out there must have something. You all are much brainier than I am.

I have so far:

  • The Glendale Grab

  • M-T Zest! (M=Manning; T=Tyree)

  • Big Blue Velvet (silky smooth)

  • Eli-Yahoo! (he's a prophet in the IT age)

  • XL eye-to-eye

  • Eli Weasel
  • Blue Thunder
  • 42nd Treat
  • Levitra, because the Giants have ED (Eli+David)
  • The Great Eli-scape

  • The Jints Connection

See what I'm talking about? I need help. Hit me with your best shots, let's patent pending this thing, together. Also, who can beat my cutline on the second photo. I've got: "Who needs Gisele? Tyree and Eli know how to celebrate The Glendale Grab."

On to the best XLII blogs ... around!

Stu on This has an equation worth sharing: Imperfect QB + Imperfect team = Perfect Win. Maaaaakes sense.

Were the Patriots too arrogant? The Blog to End All Blogs thinks so. He has evidence, too, which always helps an argument.

BigPapiandManny's 3-4 Punch has only one phrase to call Super Bowl XLII: The Greatest Game I Ever Saw.

More to come...

Blog Day Afternoon: What to call THE CATCH?

Geez another HUMBLE New York  Obnoxious rub in your face fan .

 Remember the Mets of 07

Forget the Yankeees the last 5 years and their payroll .

Nobody in the history of any _thing ever blew a 3-0 lead in the best of 7 game series

One bad over rated over hyped game loss is still one loss

Six losses  hurts more than one

'   The super bowl is an Exabutation  ( spelling, again ) game complete with the bells and whistles  AND your WIFE watching football with u for ONCE  during the Season at a Party your Neighbors threw .   Never saw so many women at a football game  being  watched on TV  during the Real regular season .( sans a bar ) as this game .

Then  Overhears some women say she  ... " like's the commercials better than the game . "  . NOT REAL consistant with the previous 18 and 1/2 Weeks of Football .  Enjoy  and  u probably left early anyway as you Wife had  ...Blah blah blah ...  the Kids or   a headache or someone was drunk  etc ... . . The super bowl is a throw away  .  Nice to win but really just an EXTRA Game played for the NFL  and it's money making opportunity . . Exploited. commercially to the Max .

I can see Chris Berman calling it  "The Great Escape" 20 years down the line. I like it. It was unbelievable. Probably the most amazing play I have ever seen.

HAHA...I just thought of another one...."19 and ooohhhhh sh@t!!!!!!!!!"

Rex Reanius,

I just wanted to apoligize. In no way did I mean to steal what you said. I didn't even read further down than the original. It was exactly what I have been calling it since it happened.

How about we just call it "The PLAY!" I mean what else do we call it. It wasn't just a catch, and it wasn't just Eli breaking four linemans grip. It was just overall unbelievable.

Thanks for the inclusion. I actually like "The Glendale Grab." I still say for Tyree to jump up and get that ball, get hit, hang on to it, and land with his hands over his head without letting the ball touch the ground, is simply amazing, and that will go down as one of the best catches in Super Bowl history.

If you really want to be dramatic about it, you can call it "The catch to end perfection." Just sounds legendary!

Blog Day Afternoon: What to call THE CATCH?

I just came up with another one:

The IMPERFECTION RECEPTION (double meaning with catch being ugly, Manning's scramble being ugly and the Pat's on their way to an imperfect season).....
