Track your Announcers Stats!!!

I love stats. Manipulating them to find out more about my team than I probably need to know, keeping track of them to figure out trends throughout the season. But it takes time to get used to keeping stats for yourself, and with cbssports no longer posting all the stats for every game there is (which can't be that hard to get them), the need to do that is growing. I have found an alternative, find your team's official site and get them from there. More stats are available, and you can figure out the defensive stats there, since cbs doesn't have a running tally of the opponents stats. But what if all of that isn't enough for you? What if you are so much of a stat junkie that analyzing, calculating, and contemplating these stats aren't enough? Or what if your attention span is just too limited and you need something else to focus on during the game? It's simple... track the stats of the two bozos (sometimes three) with microphones.

Obviously these guys aren't getting assists, shooting free throws, or pulling down rebounds. But they are making "analytical" statements about the game. So for the next game or so try this on for size to find out how bad your announcers REALLY were!!

  • The use of the word "baby" = 1 point
  • Bad Analogies/lame stories that don't relate well = 1 point
  • Mispronunciation of a players name, home town, etc. = 1 point
  • Bring up another team aside from the ones playing without relation to those teams = 1 point
  • Discuss a replay and it interupts live action: 2 points
  • Accrediting a play to the wrong player = 2 points
  • Justifying a bad call made by the officials= 2 points
  • Discussin an aspect of the game that is irrelevant to the current or previous play = 2 points
  • Accrediting a play to the wrong TEAM = 3 points
  • Argue with the other announcer(s) = 3 points
  • Display Stats, a picture profile, or a TV spot and it interrupts live action = 3 points
  • Make "bold" predictions (ex: Certain 20-1 or 19-2 teams will make the ncaa tourney) = 3 points
  • Circle or underline anything on your TV screen (like the shot clock or score) = 5 points
  • The mention of "Jo-Jo White" = 5 points
  • Referring back to their pathetic NBA/NCAA carreer = 5 points
  • Discuss potential situations too early in the game (ex: if they extend it to 4 points it will be a two-possession game, yet there's still 8 minutes left in the game) = -5 points

The higher the score the worse they are! Let me know who they were and how bad they really are!

Hahah.  I love it!!! With your permission Nater, I would like to print this out and convert it into some type of drinking game.  Always have to ask permission for IP....  Wait, maybe that isn't such a good idea.  After all, I would predict a bout with liver cancer after watching one game where Bob Elliott is in the booth, although Dicky V. might get 88 points a game from the first rule.

If I can make a suggestion for removing points though.  Though few and far between, there are a few decent announcers out there.  Such situations would be when they discuss something of value that the casual basketball fan may not realize.  Or if they are really bad they can get points removed for being silent for a period of time (say 1 point for 10 consecutive seconds of realizing maybe they are talking too much).

Oh, and you missed one.....Bob Elliott gets 30 points everytime he says 'Double Nickels' when referring to a player wearing #55.  This was the only reason I was glad to see Radenovic go last year, at least I would have to hear that stupid term quite as often.

Double Nickels!! I love it!!! rotflmao!

Yeah, use it all you want! Drinking game, sure... but there needs to be an advisory... Do not attempt to play this drinking game when Dick Vitale or Bob Elliot are announcing a game. You will be guaranteed to be sloshed by the 9 minute mark, in the first half!
