Do you love or hate the Chargers?

Posted on: January 15, 2008 2:32 pm

Each Tuesday I throw a thread out asking community members to share why they love or hate something. Now that we have blogs, we're getting all fancy schmancy here and ditching the threads.

With the Chargers breaking on through to the AFC title game, it's time for a little lovin' and hatin' San Diego style.

Take a second and share why you love or hate the Bolts and if you have time you can check out the Love/Hate videos here.

So how this works is...comment back on the blog with something like "I hate the Chargers because Philip Rivers doesn't know when to shut his yap." Or, "I love the Chargers because of three words: Billy Joe Tolliver. "

Just start your response with I love... or I hate....

That's all. So spread the love and hate. I look forward to reading your responses. And any suggestions for future Love/Hates are always appreciated.

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

Growing up in Western New York my whole life and never getting to see the Chargers play, absolutly kills me, but what kills me more is how people can sit there and piss and moan about the chargers.  The reason to this is because they feel threatened in their own little world where Brady breaks every record, and Peyton is the Golden Boy.  I've been with the team since Brees was with them, and before this year I never saw anyone harp about a team more.  You bring up Rivers runnin his mouth, which he is gonna do that, because someday he WILL be an elite quarterback, unlike Eli.  LT supposedly "storming" away from Rivers in that one game, people gotta let go, they both have admitted that there was no tension there.  For the Pats game last season, give it a rest, LT was frustrated because they made it all the way to 14-2 and let it slip away in the last quarter of a playoff game, so wouldn't you be upset if you were getting closer to the end of a hall of fame career and never win a playoff game?  I love the Chargers, and I always will, no matter if I live in Colt territory (like I do now) or if I were to live in Denver or Oakland..I will support my boys!

I hate the chagers because all they do is run their mouth. Rivers ,LT merriman are al good players who dont know when to shut their mouths. They'r a bunch of showboats who have yet to win a damn thing. They need to show some respect for the Pats who are clearly the superior team.

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

I love the Chargers... I have been throught the 1-15 season, 4-12 season so I am loving things now adays. Even if the loose against the Pats this has been a successful season.

As much as I want the Chargers to win, if they did loose I would be happy for Junior and Rodney Harrison. Unfortunately that means Brady wins too and I hate to see that happen.

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

I love the chargers.  Born and raised a charger fan and the only reason people seem to be "hating" the chargers is because they are now on the radar in the NFL.  Before no one could give a care about them and now that they are finally doing well people bash them.  Not every team is perfect and not every NFL player is perfect but LT is pretty close.  Everyone sometimes says things that they wish they could take back and an NFL player is the same way.   Most of the time they are just answering question from the media so blame the media for bring things up for players to comment about i.e this week about how LT said "if your not cheating your not trying" on bill belichick's philosophy.  The only reason he said that was because of the reporters question and LT is not the sharpest tool in the shed so cut him some slack.  it's all about ratings and what brings ratings???? fueds

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

I love the chargers because of Philip Rivers' fiery attitude.  He is the emotional leader the Chargers need and he can easily spark the entire offense with his attitude.  And LT and Merriman are awesome too.

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

This question is stupid.  Why?

Bottom Line: The Media hates the Chargers, so the nation outside of So Cal is going to hate the Chargers.

They do it by creating villains, and bringing up dead issues in order to create drama in the same way that reality television is made.  If you cut sound bites up enough, and replay them over and over the common fan will go along with the program.

Tomlinson went off about the Patriots having no class after they won.  Tomlinson even apologized to Belichick during the pro bowl, but no one brings that up.  I understand NE fans are going to back their team, but if the roles had been reversed you would be saying the same thing as LT after that game.

80% of all star NFL players talk trash.  It's the culture we currently live in.  The thing is that we also live in a culture where the media dwells on topics, so they essentially manipulate public opinion.  If this weren't true how is it that LT went from the NFL darling in 2006 to "cry baby?"  Again, Tomlinson manned up and apologized to Belichick for his comments, but the media doesn't talk about that.

The media right now hates the Chargers, because they spoiled their chances at an advertising gold mine, like when Peyton played Eli for the first time.  How many times did we have to watch that home movie of Peyton yelling about no horse collar tackles?

The fact is that if the Chargers win this game, and win the super bowl it will be one of the greatest stories in NFL history for so many reasons.  The Chargers have fought through the media, their own fans, and themselves as a team to get to where they are now, yet all anyone talks about is Rivers talking to the Colts fans, or LT's comments after the Patriots (once again not his apology to Belichick).

The media hates the Chargers, therefore the nation hates the Chargers.

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

You simply have to love the Chargers. How could you love football and not love them?

They have the kicked puppy for a head coach, one everyone was wrong about this year, or were they? A lot threw that old they will lose more games in the regular season and go deep in the playoffs, then backed off after the 1-3 start.

The have the best player in the league all things considered in L.T. Certainly the best RB is you count QBs in the same catagory, I don't by the way.

A great TE with an even better story. The guy that didn't play college football and sets the NFL on fire, making it vogue to use a TE as a weapon again.

The suddenly firey Philip Rivers that every comment he makes is now taunting someone. And ever since he started taunting is hitting wide open receivers.

The WR corps that just doesn't contribute.....oops...in the regular season it seems but do quite well in the post season thank you very much.

The fullback that is 112 in FB years that just likes to hit people and open holes. Guys you never heard of like Legadu Nanee making huge plays. Darren Sproles that looked more like Maurice Jones Drew than Maurice does. Guys with names like "Turner the Burner."

Then you have the defense. The big uglies are ugly lemme tell you. Well Luis Castillo thinks he's a pretty boy, we don't need to hurt his feelings by telling him otherwise.

Jamal Williams and Igor Olshansky are ugly. And they play ugly.

Complimenting them are the LBs Shawn Merriman and Shaun Phillips. If that line isn't nasty enough for you.

Then there is the CROW! Antonio Cromartie. The guy has played an amazing year, unveiled, unleashed, or in the right place at the right time, how can you not love a guy that plays corner with a name and natural, no automatic nickname like "The Crow."

And speaking of names for a corner, how's Quentin Jammer do for you? Is there possibly a better or more appropriate name for a CB?

There is Clinton Hart, what the team played with bunches and bunches of last week.

The rookie Eric Weddle that they supposedly reached for that stopped a scoring drive while being blocked last week at the 2 yardline. Does anyone meddle like Weddle? I mean where does he even play? Sometimes he's a Safety, sometimes a CB, and even makes appearances in a base 3-4 look as a LB. I'd say Weddle can meddle alright.

Scifres that booms, Kaeding that can do no wrong until the game is one and done.

And then there is the guy that looks like he walked out of an episode of the Sopranos. A.J. Smith.

The guy everyone finds some reason to call stupid each and every year, and just keeps being right. A guy that has fewer free agent starters than 4th round or later starters. And these players are coveted by other teams. Undrafted FA rookies that go to the probowl. Not once, but multiple seasons. A guy that has so specific a need for players Wes Welker couldn't make the roster as a kick returner. They cut him, before you think I am debating who is better, Sproles or Welker.

AJ is gangsta fo'sho.

This team was built from the ground up. It was tweaked, it was prodded. And a major growth was removed to get where they wanted to be, that elusive "next level."

They could have folded at 1-3.

They have guts, they have brass, they have talent and they have heart.

How can you not love the San Diego Chargers?

They did what all but a few teams find amazing. Went from 1-15 doormat to 13-5 participant in the Conference Championship. 3 AFC West titles in 4 years. Won a playoff game the were supposed to win, and one the were not supposed to win......so far.

They are alive when all wrote them off as dead in week 4.

How can you love football and not love the Chargers?

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

Light_56_Out...

You are correct about Moss's past. I would say the same about Dillon. But what I ask you to look at, is what they have done since they joined the Patriots. They - became tem players. I hope that you can say the same about your Bolts over the next few years.

Harrison was wrong, and admitted it. I give him that. I have been a Patriots fan since the late 70's / early 80's when we where bottom of the barrel. So I can relate to your love for your team. The Bolts are a great team now and played an awesome game against the Colts. I am excited and a bit nervous about this weeks game. But I still see the Patriots winning, it will be closer then I would hope.

Do you love or hate the Chargers?

"Shueless Joe" should be "Clueless Joe". You're a definite Pat lover and are blind to their classlessness because you're an unthinking lemming who is swept away by their talent. You guys always bring up the same lame stuff - I love the Merriman argument especially - the NFL was shrewd enough and right enough to catch him on roids, but now they no longer are. Duh - which is it Sheila?
