Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

Posted on: January 23, 2008 2:19 pm

We're a day late, but each Tuesday I throw a blog out there asking you all to tell CBS Sports why you love or hate something. We don't care for middle grounds in this blog. Middle grounds are for people much more sane than we are.

Since it's Super Bowl week, we're asking you to tell us why you love or hate Tom Brady. From his love life to his looks and even some non-superficial stuff like his ability on the field, we're itching to read what you dig or are digusted with regarding the three-time Super Bowl champ.

Take a second and share why you love or hate Tom Brady and if you have time you can check out previous Love/Hate videos here.

So how it works is ... comment back on the blog with something like "I love Tom Brady because he throws the best deep ball in the business" or "I hate Tom Brady because he sleeps with much, much, much, much hotter women than I do."

Just start your response with I love... or I hate....

That's all. So spread the love and hate. I look forward to reading your responses. And any suggestions for future Love/Hates are always appreciated.

Forum will be closed Friday.

Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

Fin Fan,

Get a grip man, and a life while you're at it. While love and hate are strong words, I think you really have to like what Tom Brady brings to the table in the realm of Qbs. We are all (all true football fans) spoiled in this era because we get to watch watch three (Brady, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning) future HOFers and three of the best that ever played the position. Brady has won 3 Super Bowls and is in line for perhaps another. That puts him in pretty elite company. Now the haters will say it wasn't him, the Patriots defense was this, yada yada yada.

Well lets look at some facts, Did or did not the Pittsburg Steelers have one of, if not the best defenses ever when Terry Bradshaw won his four SBs ? Look at all the names on that defense, Joe Greene, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Andy Russell, Mel Blount, LC Greenwood, not to mention Rocky Bleier, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. Pretty fair supporting cast (note the sarcasm) Which is required to win just one SB never mind 4.

Joe Montana and the 49ers had Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Roger Craig, Tom Rathman as well as Dwight Clark. I'm sure I'm leaving someone out on offense, The Niners defense had, among others, Charles Haley, Ronnie Lott, Bill Romanowski. Their defenses weren't shabby either.

Now for the first two of the Pats Super Bowl wins, Brady handed off to Antwain Smith and threw to David Patten and Troy Brown, TEs were Jermaine Wiggins and Christian Fauria. While none were/are bad players, none match up to anything the other QBs had on their offenses. True the Pats Defense was excellent in all three years, for the third SB win Brady did have Corey Dillon to hand off to, his main targets were again Troy Brown, and David Givens and Deion Branch. Again while good WRs, would anyone compare them to Swann/Stallworth or Rice/Taylor ???? Thats what seperates Brady from man of his contemporaries. He has done more with less than anyone I've ever seen play. I've been watching the game since '67 and have seen Starr, Unitas, Fouts, and all the others listed above and Brady doesn't have to take a backseat to anyone. This year the Patriots added Randy Moss, Donte' Stallworth, Wes Welker and look at how deadly this offense has become. It all stems from #12. Now, you need an excellent OL (which they have) and great situational players and defense (ditto) to go undefeated. Should they beat the Giants in the Super Bowl, they will go down as one of, if not the greatest team ever. How far would they have gotten without Brady ?  Not nearly as far. For the first Colt fan poster.....ask yourself this, Would Peyton make the comeback in the AFCCG last year with Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell last year? That's a no brainer.

The guy will go down as a first ballot HOFer and arguably the best QB to have played the game. He, along with Favre and Manning give us all the chance to watch three of the best. We now live in the age of Internet so we are constantly bombarded with over coverage on all three, something in the past, some of the other guys didn't have to put up with. But it doesn't diminish what they do. Enjoy while you can, because someday they won't be here to entertain/anguish you. LOL Peace everyone

Save your "hate" for something worthwhile. Maybe terrorist, lawyers, politicians. "He's too perfect."{ What an excuse! Brady's just a guy with football talent and CA good looks. He mouths off very little (even to the poor boy Colts), but is not afraid to get in someone's face. He "knocked up his former girlriend" and has taken responsibility for it and the child. That's better than many guys do these days. You must be the perfect human geo, no flaws but ready to criticize others. You're the example I wouldn't want for my daughters.

Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

Why can't there be a happy medium?  I respect Tom Brady and when him and Peyton are done playing we are all going to look back at their careers and be amazed that we're witnessing their greatness.  I hate him because he plays for the Pats and he tears apart my Jets 85% of the time.  I love him because he is perfect for the NFL to promote.  Would you rather have Pacman Jones be one of the faces of the NFL ?  All the records he's accomplished this year and winning 3 Superbowls already, can't hate on him for that.  I'm sure there were Marino, Elway and Montana haters at the time but in retrospect you can't but love to respect him.

Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

He is the closest thing to the old school legends of Staubach, Bradshaw, Montana, and Elway.  His focus on execution and confidence is unmatched as a quarterback.  He was said to have a weak arm, but he has a cannon.  He wa said not to have good footwork or mobility, but he has run for clutch first downs when all receivers are covered.  Go back to 4th down in the snowgame against the Raiders and look for his 4th down run, that led to Vinateri's field goal.  Yes what a run.......probably the biggest forgotten play of the playoffs and run to the Super Bowl.  I also love Tom Brady, because what made him good right away was his Play Action fakes.  He really hung in there and delivered some great fakes early in his career.  Yes he is a shotgun QB a lot now, but he has won being one of the best Play Action Pass QB's in the league.  Remember Boomer Esiason and Yes Danny White....great play action pass QB's......Brady got many receivers the ball, because they did not think he could deliver the rifle "outside throw" off of a play action!

In the world of Hollywood Football Players and Papparazzi (Spelling) Tom Brady is as Old School as you will find in our modern day NFL.  Trust me at 42 years old.  I have seen many of the greats live in action......and Brady has the charisma that matches them all!!

I Love Tom Brady because he represents OLD SCHOOL, and I hope LeRoy Neimann makes another rendition of America's Quarterback with this #12 so I can hang it next to my one of Roger Staubach!  Oh and the front page of the Boston Globe's February 4th edition already has a reserved spot on my office wall!!  PERFECTION 19-0!!  Hey Czonka, Griese, Morris, and Shula.....Can I buy you a beer???

Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

I hate Tom Brady, hate with a capital "H".  I'm sick and tired of hearing about him and the rest of the patriots, its all about Brady and the patriots, it makes me sick.  There are some starting to think that he is the best quarterback ever.   !@#$ them, Brady may be known as one of the best ever but he will never be the best ever. !@#%^ Brady and !@#$ the patriots.  Hope they lose the Super Bowl, they don't deserve to be there, not after what their coach did this year, they shouldn't even be undefeated because of what he did.

To the the New York Giants; please, for the sake of the fans of the other 30 teams in the NFL, beat the patriots.

Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

One of the dumbest posts I have ever seen.  Peyton is 1/100000th the leader that Tom Brady is, and you are sorely deceived if you think Peyton shows way more passion - remember all the clips of brady tackling his wrs after tds??  The brett favre energy?? The one that won one super bowl 12 years ago and has done nothing in clutch situations besides drown his team since.  This post you wrote has every thing to do with you being a jealous colts fan.  Love him or hate him, Brady is on his way to being the best QB of all time (if he isnt already) so stop whining and deal with it.

Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

Love Brady !!!!! Not for what he is accomplishing this season but for what he has worked through in his career. From third string QB behind Bledsoe and John Friesz to the great QB he is today. He was given the oppurtunity to play and made the best of the situation. I was at the first game that Brady started and the general consensus was Brady who?

With less than two minutes left in the Superbowl 2001 John Madden makes a comment that the pats should let the time run out and take there chances in O.T. Brady drives them into field goal range and you know the rest. Love him because he has worked for what he has, he was not the big star that everyone makes him out to be this season.

He is a great QB, and I respected what he did last season with very little talent reciever wise. This year he has so much support and has not wasted it. He is not hung up on the fact that he needs to throw to Moss because he has to stroke Mosses ego to keep him happy. He plays to win! If it means 8 passes underneath to Faulk or the bomb to Moss or letting Maroney carry the ball. Whatever is best for his teammates.

That's why I love Tom Brady

Do you love or hate Tom Brady?

Here's the deal. If you want to hate the Patriots because you think their coach is a deceitful, cheating, no personality jerk you have a case. If you want to hate the Patriots because you're tired of seeing the same team get all the press and winning, that's fine. If you hate the Patriots because you're still mad about "Snow Bowl"...get over it, but understandable.

Love or hate is probably not broad enough of a choice for many here outside of New England, but RESPECT has to be a word that comes to mind. Tom Brady epitomizes what you want your QB to be like. He's the hardest worker on that team (his teammates will concur), he's a leader, he doesn't publicly call coaches or teammates out, he takes the blame when he plays poorly (SD game), he doesn't talk smack to other teams or players publicly (he does on the field like EVERY other guy in the NFL) AND the guy is clutch.

If you HATE the Pats because they are not your team, fine. But if you HATE Tom Brady you are of course entitled to your opinion but understand that you are a HOMER and NOT a true sports fan. There of course is nothing wrong with that, but please don't try to explain to me that you are anything other than that. Being a Boston sports fan I of course do not like the Yankees or Colts but I'm enough of a sports fan to respect and realize that guys like Jeter and Manning are STUDS!! and would welcome them on my teams. If you simply hate Brady because he wins then enjoy being a homer for your teams, but don't consider yourself a subjective sports fan.
